T&T Premier Football League Tier I champions T&T Defence Force FC will hope to rebound from their 2-1 loss away to Jamaica Wray & Nephew Premier League champions Cavalier FC when they host Barbadians Weymouth Wales in their penultimate Group B clash at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from 8 pm.
The Army Coast Guard Civilian Combination team had its final training session at the game venue yesterday and will need to win tonight to have a chance of being among the top two teams that will progress out of Group B.
Coach Devorn Jorsling has had to make a few adjustments in his defensive structure, and he told the media, “The mindset now is that everybody has changed. The guys are fully focused and coming out to perform tomorrow. I believe once the focus is on giving a good performance, the three points will come. I think to reach this stage of the tournament, they (Weymouth Wales) have to be a good team. They have their strengths and their weaknesses, so it’s just for us to go and impose our style on them,” Jorsling, who took over from Densill Theobald, told the media yesterday.
Experienced T&T defender Sheldon Bateau will enter the Defence Force backline as a replacement for Justin Garcia, who is on loan with a foreign club. He will join Curtis Gonzales. While in attack, Jorsling is hoping that out-of-form Isaiah Leacock will regain the form that helped the team capture Tier 1 of the T&T Premier Football League a few months ago.
The Defence Force, winners over Juventus Des Cayes of Haiti in their tournament curtain-raiser last month via a 1-0 result, has three points from two matches, the same as Weymouth Wales in the joint third spot, one point behind Cavalier FC, while Dominican Republic's Cibao FC sits top of the table with six points from two matches ahead of their clash last night with cellar-placed Juventus Des Cayes at the Estadio Cibao FC in Santiago de los Caballeros, Dominican Republic.
Following tomorrow's match against the Barbadians, the Defence Force, who won the Caribbean Concacaf Club title back in 2001, will end the round-robin play away to Cibao FC of the Dominican Republic on October 1, while Weymouth Wales entertain Cavalier also on October 1.
