T&T’s Jordan Dookie and her Barbadian partner Serena Bryan came from a set down against the USA sisters pairing of Camille Allegre, and Olivia Allegre to capture the Girls Under-18 Doubles title when the ITF World Tennis Tour Junior St Vincent and the Grenadines Tennis Association National Lotteries Authority (NLA) J30 Villa Tournament ended on Friday.
Playing at the National Tennis Centre Villa, St Vincent in the one-week COTECC-hosted event, the duo of Dookie, and Bryan rallied for victory 4-6, 6-4, 10-5.
It was the second Doubles title of the season for Dookie after she combined with Cookie Jarvis-Tredgett for last month’s tournament win in Castries, St Lucia.
In Thursday’s semifinal in St Vincent, Dookie and Bryan defeated Moldova’s Anastasia Ganja, and New Zealand’s Dallas King-Ehau 7-5, 6-0 while the Allegre’s overwhelmed Tatiana Martinez’s fellow Americans Tatiana Martinez, and Gabriela Vela 6-4, 7-5.
On Wednesday in the quarterfinals, Dookie, and Bryan stunned top-ranked Americans Sophia Cedeno, and Sofia Mills 6-2, 7-6(0) while fellow T&T player, Reina Alexis and St Vincent and The Grenadines’ Afe Luca were beaten by USA’s Tatiana Martinez, and Gabriela Vilar 0-6, 1-6.
In the Singles competition, Dookie reached the quarterfinals before she was halted by USA’s fifth-ranked player Simran Makker 6-2, 2-6, 2-6.
This after the second-seeded Dookie defeated Martinez 6-4, 6-0 in their round-of-16 tie while Alexis was humbled by Poland’s Karolina Lincer 0-6, 0-6. Both T&T girls had received first round-byes.
In the Boys Under-18 Doubles, T&T’s Zachery Byng and B’Jorn Hall were beaten in the semifinals by top-ranked Brazilians and eventual champions Lucca Acioly, and Ettore Romeo Baggio 2-6, 1-6.
On Tuesday, Byng and Hall won their opening match, 6-1, 6-2 against host duo Jaiden Bowens, and Angello Morgan 6-1, 6-2 and then defeated Sebastien Byng, and Adam King of Barbados, the fourth-ranked pair, 6-4, 6-4 in the quarterfinals.
The T&T contingent of players which also includes St Lucia-leg Singles winner, Sebastien Byng, Aaron Subero, Adrian Jacobs, Nathan Martin, Kale Dalla Costa, Beckham Sylvester, Zachery Byng, and Javed Dowlat will now refocus themselves on the second hosting of the J30 event in St Vincent beginning at the same venue on Monday and it will end on August 19.
