Defending champion and the top ranked Jordane Dookie and second-ranked Ella Carrington set up a mouth-watering Women’s Open singles final of the Sunshine Snacks Tranquillity Open after winning their respectve semifinals in straight sets at the Tranquillity Tennis Club, Victoria Avenue, St Clair, Wednesday.
However, Dookie who has already retained the women’s Doubles title with Lee-Ann Thornton had the easier of battles on her hand as she swept past fourth-ranked Charlotte Ready 6-1, 6-4 in their final-four encounter while Carrington was made to work for her 6-4, 7-6(10-8) win over Thornton.
Second ranked Dookie and Kristyan Valentine will meet fourth-ranked Shiloh Walker and Keshan Moonasar in the Mixed Doubles semifinals today after the latter crushed Stefon Ramsingh and Savitree Singh 6-2, 6-2 in their quarterfinal yesterday while top ranked Richard Chung and Cameron Wong come up against third seeded Akiel Duke and Carrington who beat fifth ranked Richard Mc Letchie, and Catherine Campbell-Frost 6-2, 6-1.
On Tuesday night in the two late Mixed Doubles quarterfinals Dookie and Valentine battled past seventh-ranked Nicholas Ready and Charlotte Ready 4-6, 6-3, (10-7), while top ranked Chung and Wong advanced after Lee-Anne Thornton and her husband Andrew Thornton, the sixth-seeded duo retired with the match nicely poised at 6-7(6), 4-2.
