T&T's Jordane Dookie, right, shows off her second-place trophy next to champion, top-ranked Gretchen Wolfe after their Girls Under-14 Singles final in the United States Tennis Association Level Six Extreme Tennis Academy at the Michael Ann Russell Jewish Community Center, Miami, Florida, on Tuesday. Gretchen won 4-0, 4-2.

T&T's Jordane Dookie had to settle for the runner-up spot in the Girls' Under-14 Singles final of the United States Tennis Association Level Six Extreme Tennis Academy after losing in straight sets at the Michael Ann Russell Jewish Community Center in Miami, Florida, USA on Tuesday.

Coming up against the top-ranked Gretchen Wolfe in the main draw East Division decider, the un-ranked Dookie sizzling form deserted her as she fell to a 0-4, 2-4 defeat in a match that was postponed from Monday due to rain.

Speaking after her runner-up finish Dookie admitted it was a tough battle.

She said,” I had a tough match in the finals as I played the number one seed. We had a lot of close games but my opponent was able to come out with the win.”

Despite not securing the win, Dookie said she was happy to compete.

She added, “I’m thankful for the opportunity to be playing in the USTA Tournament especially when it was planned.

“It was a great tournament as I was able to compete against many high-quality players and I am now looking forward to competing in the next tournament in the Dominican Republic.”

On Sunday, Dookie defeated Florida’s Michelle Flyam 5-3, 5-3 in the semifinal after she rallied past seventh-ranked Ariana Gil 4-5(2), 5-3, (8-6) in the quarterfinals and second-ranked Kamila Correa 4-0, 3-5, 15-13 in the previous round.

In addition to her victory over Dookie in the final, Wolfe also whipped fellow T&T players Jaeda-Lee Daniel-Joseph 4-1, 4-1 and Briana Harricharan 4-0, 4-0 on her way to the title match.

Meanwhile, in the consolation round, Isaiah Boxill was a beaten semifinalist after a straight-set loss as well to Krishang Badwal, 1-4, 0-4.

Boxhill had started with a 6-0, 6-1 win against Seokhwan Harrison Jang in the round-of-32 followed by a 4-2, 4-1 beating of seventh-ranked Maximo Lopina in the last-16, and 5-4 (2), 4-1 thumping of Jose Miguel Pardon in the quarterfinals.

T&T's Daniel-Joseph shared the U-14 Girls' Plate crown with second-ranked main draw player Kamila Correa after their match was cancelled due to rain and time constraints.

In the semifinals, national U-16 and U-16 champion Daniel-Joseph blanked Ashley Canelon, 4-0, 4-0.

And in the Boys' U-14 North Plate title match, Kayden Siewrattan and Kale Dalla Costa shared top honours after their final was cancelled due to poor weather and time constraints to complete the competition.

Siewarattan swept past Jonnic Wisniewski 4-0, 4-1 and Dalla Costa outplayed Maximo Lopina 4-0, 4-2 in their semifinal matches after both won their quarterfinals by default.

On Sunday, T&T’s Zachery Byng captured the Third Draw (North East) title in the Boys' U-14 Age-Group with a tough win over Jose Miguel Pardon 5-4 (7-3), 4-2 after he was ousted in the main draw quarterfinal stage.

The involvement in the tournament in the USA for the T&T players came after they had their quest for individuals honours at the Copa Mundo Maya at the Complejo de Tenis de la Federación Nacional de Tenis de Guatemala, in Guatemala City, Guatemala, come to an abrupt halt on July 3 due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. This after a player from El Salvador tested positive for the coronavirus.
