The local duo of Jordane Dookie and Cameron Wong stormed into the last-eight of the girls' Under-18 Division Singles when the International Tennis Federation World Tennis Tour J30 Castries continued at the St Lucia National Tennis Centre on Tuesday.
Playing in Beausejour, Gros-Islet, Castries, following a first-round bye, the top-ranked Dookie did not drop a game in banishing St Lucian Anaiah Bousquet 6-0, 6-0 on her way to setting up a quarterfinal encounter with sixth-ranked Barbadian Serena Bryan, who won against USA’s Jaiya Siffrard, 6-4, 1-6, 6-3.
On the other side of the draw, eighth-ranked Wong was equally as impressive in brushing aside Grenada’s Arlina Drigo 6-0, 6-1 and will come up against fourth-ranked American Gabriela Vilar who spanked St Vincent and the Grenadines’ Afe Lucas 6-1, 6-1.
In the other round-of-16 matches, third-ranked Sofia Mills of the USA booted T&T’s Em-Miryam Campbell-Smith 6-2, 6-3 and will meet her countrywoman Olivia Allegre who outlasted Canada’s fifth seeded player Cookie Jarvis-Tredgett 6-3, 1-6, 6-2 while the other Allegre sister, seventh-ranked Camille trounced St Lucian Amara Jnmarie 6-0, 6-0 and will play second-ranked Daisy Clifford of Great Britain after the latter dismissed USA’s Aanya Upadhyay 6-2, 6-1.
Yesterday, in the girls’ doubles, Dookie later combined with Jarvis-Tredgett to beat T&T’s Reina Alexis and St Lucian Anaiah Bousquet of St Lucia 6-0, 6-0 in their quarterfinal while Campbell-Smith and Upadhyay were humbled by Clifford and Vilar (G) 0-6, 4-6 while the Allegre sisters booted Wong and Mills 6-0, 6-2.
When Doubles began on Monday, Alexis and Bousquet defeated Grenada’s Arlina Drigo, and Amara Jnmarie 5-7, 6-3, 10-8, and Campbell-Smith and USA’s Upadhyay ousted Guyana’s Devanie Arjune and St Lucian Iyana Paul 6-0, 6-2.
Byng brothers march into the quarterfinals
In the U-18 boy's competition, Zachery Byng and his brother Sebastien also advanced to the boys' U-18 Division quarterfinals with straight sets round-of-16 victories.
Zachery defeated Martinique’s Paul Croisy 7-6 (4), 6-1, and will meet top-ranked Danny Yassine of Canada who ousted T&T’s Kale Dalla Costa 6-3, 6-2 in their round-of-16 match while the sixth-ranked Sebastien eased past USA’s Jayden Yu 6-3, 7-5 and will clash with second seed, Zachary Whittington, who topped T&T’s B’Jorn Hall, 6-3, 6-3.
Also making his exit at the last-16 hurdle was Adrian Jacobs after a 2-6, 0-6 defeat against fourth-ranked American Dean Williams.
Dalla Costa had much better fortune in the Doubles as he partnered countryman Beckham Sylvester for a walkover victory against Barbadian Adam King and USA’s Fox Rogers in the quarterfinals while Sebastien Byng and St Vincent and the Grenadines Afi Lucas faced USA’s Connor Cole, and Luke Rhoden in a late quarterfinal.
On Monday when the Doubles competition served off, Dalla Costa and Sylvester beat Croisy and St Lucian Alhil Cyril 6-2, 6-2 in the round-of-16, and Byng, and Lucas dumped Zachery Byng and Hall 6-1, 6-2.
T&T’s Javed Dowlat and Aaron Subero were defeated by Guyana’s Devanie Arjune and Denzel Luther 0-6, 2-6; T&T’s Nathan Martin paired with USA’s Jayden Yu for a 1-6, 2-5 defeat at the hands of USA’s Neel Krishnaswamy and Canada’s Alexi Roy and T&T’s Jacobs combined with Guyana’s Gerald Scotland for a 1-6, 2-6 loss to Cole and Rhoden in their round-of-16 matches.
