National coach Angus Eve has made four changes to his 23-man squad that played in the opening two matches against Curacao and El Salvador, ahead of the coming Concacaf Nations League A clash with Guatemala on Friday (October 13) at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo, Port-of-Spain from 9 pm.
Defender Alvin Jones, whose previous omissions raised eyebrows, has been recalled as well as midfielder Noah Powder, and strikers Tyrone Charles and Real Gill.
All have been added to a relatively familiar squad picked by the embattled coach.
Injured Malcolm Shaw, who scored once in the two matches, has had to make way for Charles while Brent Sam, the lanky Defence Force striker who did not have travel documents in time for the El Salvador match was replaced by Gill, a skilful force up front.
Powder and Jones, on the other hand, have been preferred to the injured Shannon Gomez and Daniel Phillips.
The Soca Warriors defeated Curacao 1-0 and then El Salvador 3-2 to put themselves just two wins away from a quarterfinal spot in the Nations League.
On Monday (October 9), Eve conducted his first training session at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella, a day before he is expected to switch to the match venue to continue preparation for the Guatemalans.
According to Eve, six players Ryan Telfer, Powder, Aubrey David, Andre Rampersad, Kareem Moses and Andre Raymond are expected today after playing for their respective clubs over the weekend.
Eve's changes came after a slew of injuries weakened his team. Guardian Media Sports learned that goalkeeper Nicklas Frenderup is nursing a shoulder injury, Levi Garcia is down to injury, and Keston Julien is recovering from surgery.
"Everybody else is in good spirits, no other player has any injury so for us, we know what Guatemala brings to the table. We've been watching tapes on them so we're going to prepare for that," coach Eve told the media Monday.
He noted: "We want to win the game, it's not going to be an easy game. Guatemala qualified for the quarterfinal of the CONCACAF Gold Cup, they are a very decent unit, and they are unbeaten in the zone so far, so it's not going to be an easy game. They have a lot of competent players, they are well-coached, so we're not taking anything for granted."
Eve is hoping to build on the position the team is in at the moment, saying with two wins in as many matches, "nobody ever thought that the team would have been" in that position.
"So we want to keep on believing in ourselves, believing in the staff, believing in the work that we have been doing and hopefully we can make T&T proud," Eve said.
He further called on the public to come out and support the team, saying the players deserve it.
