Loved ones will bid farewell to sportswriter Everard Alexander Pickford Gordon on Friday at 10.30 am at the St Finbar's Roman Catholic Church, Morne Coco Road, Diego Martin.
Gordon passed away at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital on Friday at age 85. He had been ailing with dementia for some time and was at the Archbishop Finbar Ryan Geriatric Home, Diego Martin.
The former sportsman was a longest-serving employee at Trinidad Guardian Newspaper, who covered a number of sports including cricket, boxing, squash and horse racing and was the author of the weekly “The Nightwatchman” column.
Gordon was a Trinidad welterweight amateur boxing and St Mary’s College champion, who also played cricket locally, representing Harvard Sports Club. He also played in England.
He had a passion for reporting and interviewing anyone in the field of sports. It showed in his writings, particularly in weekly column, which was exceptional and remarkable.
Gordon was firstborn to Emelda and Leo Pickford-Gordon. He and his siblings Kenrick (deceased), Lorne, Alva (deceased), Grace, Godfrey, Richard, Enid, Ronald, June and Donna grew up on Duke Street in Port of Spain where their progeny spent a great deal of time together with the family.
The revered sports journalist, who leaves to mourn his three children Mark and twin Michael and Michele, grandchildren, Damian, Kara, Rory, Matthew, Nicole, Ian, Tonjah, Shanesse, Kyle, Cheyenne, Maya. Dominic is deceased.
Gordon was also the great grand father to Dominique, Aidan, Isabel, Herbert, Iman, Amir, Iannamei and Ariel.
