Defending National Inter-Col champions Fatima College will look to continue their march towards its the first national Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Boys’ Premier Division title in 45 years when they entertain Trinity College East at Fatima College Ground, Mucurapo Road from 3.30 pm on Wednesday.
Going into the round 13 fixture, Hutson Charles-coached two-time (1973 & 1978) national league champions Fatima College leads the 16-team table with 31 points, five ahead of the surging defending champions St Benedict’s College and San Juan North Secondary while four-time winners Naparima College is fourth with 24 points two ahead of the trio of St Anthony’s College, Presentation College of San Fernando, and Arima North Secondary, all former past national league champions.
For Fatima, the task is simple, win two of their remaining three fixtures which also includes ties against Naparima College and St Mary’s College, and they will claim the title.
But their task today will not be an easy one as Trinity East has proved to be a sturdy test for most opposition all season long and will be buoyed by their 4-2 road win against St Anthony’s College inspired by a Khaleem Prince hat trick.
Should Fatima slip up, they will leave the door open for St Benedict’s who travel to lowly Pleasantville Secondary at Yolande Pompey Recreation Ground, and the stuttering San Juan North Secondary, who are at home to St Mary’s College to close the gap with expected wins.
In the other key matches, Queen’s Royal College is at home to Naparima College at Maraval Road, Presentation College and St Anthony’s College clash at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium, with both teams knowing a defeat for either will end any mathematical chance of the title win while Arima North Secondary is at home to Bishop’s at the Arima Municipal Stadium, Arima.
Also today, Chaguanas North Secondary welcomes Speyside Secondary, and Malick Secondary and East Mucurapo Secondary renew their rivalry at St Mary’s College Ground, in St Clair.
