BOLTON, England – Barbadian striker Thierry Gale scored a sensational winner to give Bolton Wanderers a thrilling 2-1 victory over Exeter City in the EFL League One here at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday.
The diminutive 23-year-old forward, who came on as a second-half substitute, found the back of the net in the 82nd minute to ensure his side secured all three points at home and extend the Trotters’ unbeaten home record to 16 matches in all competitions.
While the hosts started the game on the front foot, it was actually City who took the lead against the run of play in the 20th minute when Jack Aitchison capitalised on a costly error from Bolton’s goalkeeper Sharman-Lowe to calmly guide the ball into the empty net and spark jubilant celebrations among the travelling Grecians.
Bolton eventually drew level in the 70th minute, with Sam Dalby quickest to react to tap home the rebound after a Bolton effort struck the post.
With the game seemingly headed for a draw, Kyle Dempsey picked out Gale on the left wing with a pinpoint cross, and the Barbadian showed skill to get past his defender before curling a superb shot into the far corner to spark wild celebrations.
It was Gale’s fourth goal of the season and his first since returning from injury.
