Guadeloupe has withdrawn from the upcoming 2021 Concacaf Beach Soccer Championship which takes place in Alajuela, Costa Rica from May 17-23.
The tournament was originally expected to feature 12 teams but will now be contested between 11 nations with T&T coming up against USA, host Costa Rica and Turks and Caicos Islands in Group C at the Complejo Deportivo FEDEFUTBOL Plycem.
T&T opens its campaign versus Costa Rica on, May 17, before facing USA a day later and Turks and Caicos Islands in their final match.
Group A comprises defending champions Mexico, Panama, and Belize while Group B consist of El Salvador, Bahamas, Guatemala, and the Dominican Republic.
After round-robin play between May 17-19, the first and second-place finishers in each group and the two best third-place finishers will advance to the knockout stage.
The knockout stage will begin with the quarterfinal matches on May 21, followed by the semifinals on May 22. In addition to qualifying for the competition’s final, the two semifinal winners will earn a spot in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup Russia 2021. The final is scheduled for May 23.
The FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup is scheduled to take place August 19–29, 2021, in Moscow, Russia at which 16 FIFA Member Associations (two from Concacaf) will participate.
The T&T squad is currently in training under Spanish coach Ramiro Amarelle.
The former Barcelona and Spanish beach football star Amarelle was appointed head coach of the national team and along with his assistant coach and analyst Jaime Paz and Maria Gordo, another assistant and mental coach in February.
The 43-year old Amarelle has been asked with leading T&T to the World Cup for the first time.
T&T has reached the quarterfinals of the Concacaf event three times, in 2015, 2017 and 2019 and for this year Amarelle, who is also a FIFA instructor and advisor and holds a UEFA Pro License coaching badge says he is targeting this country to its best-ever finish.
The rest of the T&T Beach Soccer team’s technical staff comprises Ryan Augustine (player/assistant coach), Dr Jason Pilgrim (athletic trainer), Dr Oba Gulston (manager) and Yuri Chapman (assistant manager/equipment manager).
