Win­ston Guer­ra of The Pouch Com­pa­ny scored the first hat trick of the tour­na­ment when the 2023 edi­tion of the Queen's Park Crick­et Club 8-A-Side Foot­ball Tour­na­ment kicked off at the Queen's Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain on Fri­day night.

Guer­ra net­ted his tre­ble in his team's 4-2 win over Full Bar­rel Sports Bar in the 35 and Un­der Di­vi­sion with for­mer na­tion­al play­er Sean De Sil­va adding the oth­er time to can­cel out ef­forts by Kyle Mows­er, and Luke De Mont­brun.

Guer­ra and De Sil­va al­so net­ted in their team's 2-1 de­feat of Spir­it Mas in their sec­ond match on Mon­day, with Je­re­my Arau­jo scor­ing for the lat­ter.

This year's tour­na­ment spon­sored by Plat­inum and Gold Spon­sors in Carib Beer and BMW Trinidad re­spec­tive­ly fea­tures 32 spon­sored teams com­pet­ing across five age groups with the fi­nals set for Fri­day (Oc­to­ber 6).

Among the re­turn­ing cham­pi­ons Ansa Bank (36-45), Pre­ci­sion Cy­ber Tech­nolo­gies (46-53), All Out Sports Bar (54-60) & Mur­phy Clarke (Over-60).

Ansa Bank made a suc­cess­ful start to its ti­tle de­fence beat­ing De­gree 1-0, and Seaboard 3-1 while in the 46-53 com­pe­ti­tion, Pre­ci­sion Cy­ber Tech­nolo­gies is al­so un­de­feat­ed af­ter two match­es, edg­ing Mi­ni Bar 2-1, fol­lowed by a goal­less draw with Earth En­er­ji to trail group lead­ers Q Pow­er Bat­tery by two points, and in the Over-60, Mur­phy Clarke kicked off its de­fence with two sim­i­lar 2-0 tri­umphs against Carib, and Cookkin Vibez, re­spec­tive­ly.

How­ev­er, in the 54-60 cat­e­go­ry, ti­tle-hold­ers All Out have drawn their two match­es, both 1-1 ver­sus Steel Drum and SAS, re­spec­tive­ly.
