Hasani Hennis of Anguilla got the nod in a close finish to take the top spot on the podium in an exciting sprint conclusion to the Scarborough Criterium 60-lap Elite Division One race which comprised Stage Three of the Tobago International Cycling Classic in, Scarborough, Tobago, on Saturday.
In a race contested in scorching heat and covering approximately 60 kilometres, Hennis, a member of the Raiders team, completed the course in one hour, 20 minutes and 23.97 seconds, just three seconds ahead of Barbadian Joshua Kelly of Miami Blazers and a further second before of his brother and teammate, Jacob Kelly in times of 1:20:25.14 and 1:20:26.63, respectively.
This punishing stage took the cyclists over a flat and fast surface - north on Wilson Road, on to Garden side Street, a right turn to Castries Street, right back onto Wilson Road, before finishing at the Post Office junction, where the race started.
USA's Musum Brian of Team Pharmaco JLD was fourth across the finish line in 1:20:29.49, while Mexico's Eder Frayre, of the Legion of Los Angeles and the winner of Friday's 90-kilometres Stage Two event, continued his consistency with a fifth place finish in a time of 1:21:09.51.
The quintet was followed home by USA's Jonnathan Brown of Miami Blazers in 1:21:10.14; Barbadian Edwin Sutherland of Heatwave in 1:21:10.72; Colombian Mateo Castaneda of Raiders in 1:21:10.79 and Akil Campbell of Heatwave, the first T&T rider to finish, in 1:21:11.30, the USA's Andrew Scarano tenth, in 1:21.11.87 and another Trini, Adam Alexander of Raiders, rounding out the top 11 in a time of 1:21:32.58.
Frayre remains the overall leader with 65 points followed by Brown with 55 and third is Sutherland with 42.
Veteran and former overall winner of the Classic, Tobago-born Emile Abraham of Team Pharmaco JLD, was the lone Masters (40+) to finish in a time of 1:21:09.60 while Heatwave's Gavin Hladly (1:21:09.77) and Bike World p/b/Fred Beans', Sam Smith (1:21.11:69) both of the USA, secured the top two Under-23 Division spots ahead of the local trio of Turning Point's Tariq Woods (1:21:12.35); Raiders' Liam Trepte (1:21:12.99) and Heatwave's Enrique De Comarmond (1:21:18.31).
The four-stage event concludes Sunday with the final event, the gruelling 120km Tour of Tobago from 7 am.
