To­ba­go Ed­u­ca­tion Dis­trict reigned as cham­pi­on of the Na­tion­al Pri­ma­ry Schools Track and Field Cham­pi­onships at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Mu­cu­rapo, Port-of-Spain on May 28. The To­ba­go ath­letes amassed 489 points to win the ti­tle for a third straight year.

Port-of-Spain (PoS) and En­vi­rons had to set­tle for sec­ond (446) with Ca­roni (286), St George East (283), St Patrick (276), South East­ern (252), Vic­to­ria (245) and North East­ern (202) fol­low­ing be­hind.

Glo­ria Hen­ry shone on the day for To­ba­go cap­tur­ing gold in the girls' Un­der-13 400 me­tres (1:01.74) high jump (1.51) and long jump (5.08). The Sig­nal Hill Gov­ern­ment stu­dent se­cured a fourth gold medal when she helped To­ba­go to win the girls' U-13 4x100m re­lay (52.03).

Hen­ry's tre­ble in­di­vid­ual gold earned her the fe­male award in her age-group and as well the top girl (Vic­trix Lu­do­rum) at the meet. An­oth­er To­ba­go team­mate Kereem Moses won the girls' U-13 100m (13.05) and 200m (24.94).

Je­re­mi­ah Hec­tor al­so starred for the To­bag­o­ni­ans as he was named "Most Out­stand­ing Boy" (Vic­tor Lu­do­ri­um) along with Josi­ah Ka­tien (PoS). Hec­tor, who at­tends Scar­bor­ough Ro­man Catholic (RC), was vic­to­ri­ous in the boys' U-11 high jump (1.33), and long jump (4.69) and was sec­ond in the 400m (1:03.80). He was a mem­ber of To­ba­go's tri­umphant boys' U-13 4x100m quar­tet.

Kait­en of St Do­minic (RC) land­ed the boys' U-15 100m (11.90) and 200m (23.93) sprint ti­tles and was the run­ner-up spot in the 400m (55.37). He an­chored PoS & En­vi­rons to gold in the boys' U-15 med­ley (1X1X2X4) re­lay (1:50.57).

Key­on Bournes and Je­le­na Vin­cent were al­so age-group win­ners for To­ba­go. Bournes topped the boys' U-11 100m (13.95) and long jump (4.11) to share with in­di­vid­ual boys' ti­tle in the age di­vi­sion with PoS & En­vi­rons' Zion Miller-Phillips as both earned 20 points fol­low­ing Miller-Phillips' sil­ver in the 100m (14.14) and bronze in the 150m (21.40) and 300m (48 70).

Vin­cent with the most points (16) in the girls' U-9 cat­e­go­ry not win­ning gold. She was sec­ond in the 60m (9.48) and 80m (12.71).

Akeya Gon­za­lez (St George East) took the top girls' 13-15 ho­n­ours af­ter she dis­missed her com­peti­tors in the shot put (9.60) and dis­cus (24.39). She was al­so third in the javelin (19.53). Gon­za­les fin­ished ahead of the 100m (13.34) and 200m (27.50) win­ner, Chardiane Mor­ris of Ca­roni.

To­ba­go gained valu­able dou­ble points in the re­lays af­ter cap­tur­ing five wins, sweep­ing the U-11 and U-13 4x100m events as well as land­ing the girls' U-9 4x50m. PoS & En­vi­rons' ath­letes were vic­to­ri­ous in boys' U-9 4x50m and both U-15 med­ley re­lays.

The top two dis­tricts end­ed on the same medal tal­ly of 41. How­ev­er, To­ba­go earned 21 gold medals com­pared to the 13 earned by their ri­vals. South East­ern was next with six wins (16 medals in to­tal) as St George East 23 (5, 6, 12), Ca­roni 16 (4, 4, 8), St Patrick 19 (3, 8, 8), Vic­to­ria 10 (2, 3, 5) and North East­ern 8 (2, 2, 4) were next best.
