Queen’s Park Cricket Club (QPCC) spinner Bryan Charles almost single-handedly caused KFC Clarke Road’s demise at the Queen’s Park Oval in St Clair, Port-of-Spain, on the second day of the T&T Cricket Board Premier Division One on Sunday as QPCC produced another innings victory after their huge opening win against Merryboys last week.
Charles took eight for 36 from 14.3 destructive overs and wrecked Clarke Road’s innings backbone in the second innings. The off-spinner started the destruction when he had dangerous opener Nicholas Sookdeosongh caught by Sunil Narine for 12 at 33 for one. Khary Pierre, in his first match since returning home from West Indies duty, removed Yannick Ottley for four when Ottley edged to a waiting wicketkeeper, Joshua Da Silva. The score was 43 for two at that point.
Pierre got his second and last wicket of the innings when Jyd Goolie caught Mark Deyal for four with the score on 51. After that, it was all Charles, as the finger spinner ran through the Clarke Road’s innings that had no answer for the Red Force spinner’s spinning finger, as the Bryan Charles show resumed after the Pierre commercial.
Anderson Mahase was next on Charles’ chopping block, with Narine another catch, 56 for four.
After a 15-run partnership between Vikash Mohan and Shian Brathwaite, the Penal outfit lost five wickets in the space of 21 runs with the wickets of Mohan (39), Dexter Sween (4 ), Clevon “Baby” Kalawan (1), Kerwyn Sirju (1), and Shiva Sankar (3) as they were 92 for nine in the 30th over.
Another 15-run partnership retarded the progress of the bowling team and delayed the inevitable, but in the end, Brathwaite’s resistance of 22 ended with Charles’ eighth wicket when he was caught by Kyle Ramdoo with the score on 107, still 82 runs from making QPCC bat again.
Earlier, Queen’s Park resumed on 218 for five and went on to record 303 for six declared. Yannic Cariah scored 64, and first innings hero, Terrence Hinds, followed up his 4 for 47 with an unbeaten 51.
There were results in all the matches that were played, with Kevin Sinclair and Aneal Rooplal sharing five wickets each, in Central Sports Yorkshire’s nine-wicket win over Merryboys at Cunjal.
At Syne Village, Avinash Mahabirsingh took four for 24 as he, Antony Adams, and Uthman Mohammed took all ten wickets in Powergen’s innings win over Prisons.
Ricky Jaipaul, who earned a recall to the Red Force team late last year after almost a decade, took eight for 77 as Bess Motors Marchin Patriots beat Victoria by 9 wickets.
