Turkey international and former T&T middle-blocker Sinead Jack-Kisal was the top scorer for Eczacıbaşı Dynavit in their stunning five-set win over Italy’s Numia Vero Volley Milano on their return to the CEV Zeren Women’s Champions League Volley, Wednesday.
Playing at home at the Eczacibasi Sports Hall, in Istanbul, the 32-year-old Jack-Kisal scored 21 points, which included six blocks, to lead four teammates in double-figure scoring in their 25-21, 20-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-13 triumph, which came after one hour and 37 minutes.
The other players to register double-digit scoring for Eczacıbaşı Dynavit were Ebrar Karakurt, who added 16, Magdalena Stysiak, 14, and Dana Lynn Rettke, 12, as they improved to a 2-1 record and six points, one point behind their rivals, who suffered their first loss in the pool after two wins.
On the opposite side of the net, Italian international Paola Egonu had a match-high 27 points, with Rebecca Piva getting 19, Khalia Lanier 15, and Hena Kurtagtic 13 in the defeat.
In their first two Pool C matches, Dinamo defeated Serbians Zeleznicar Lajkovac 25-12, 25-16, 25-17 before going under in five sets to Greece’s Olympiacos 25-21, 16-25, 25-19, 24-26, 16-18.
Domestically, last Saturday, Jack-Kisal, 32, was joint top scorer as Eczacıbaşı Dynavit battled to a five-set win over Kuzeyboru when the Turkish Vodafone Sultan Women’s Volleyball League resumed after the Christmas Holidays break last weekend.
Playing at the Aksaray Sports Hall, Jack-Kisal and Kathryn Boden tallied 12 points each, while Yaprak Erkek and Rettke added 11 each to rally Eczacıbaşı Dynavit to a 25-21, 26-28, 25-21, 17-25, 15-13 triumph in front of 2,000 spectators to improve their record to an 11-3 win-loss mark and 31 points in the third spot on the 14-team table, ten adrift of the leaders Vakifbank, which is unbeaten at 14-0 and 41 points, with Fenerbache Medicina second with a 13-1 mark and 39 points, while Galatasaray Daikin is fourth with a 10-4 record and 32 points.
For losers Kuzeyboru, now with a 3-11 record and ten points in the 11th spot, Malwina Smarzek had a match-high 22 points, and she got great support from Sara Lozo with 20, Martyna Czyrnianska with 18, and Dicle Nur Babat with 11.
