Joseph scores in second straight match

T&T strik­er Mar­cus "Lobo" Joseph scored in his sec­ond straight match from as many out­ings for new club Mo­hammedan SC on Wednes­day.

Play­ing in the Cal­cut­ta Pre­mier Di­vi­sion, Joseph who starred for his na­tion­al team at the re­cent­ly con­clud­ed 2021 Con­ca­caf Gold Cup fired in the open­er in the eighth minute with a close range fin­ish against Prayag Unit­ed SC.

How­ev­er, that lead was short-lived as Mur­mu drew Prayag lev­el in the 17th minute.

The see-saw bat­tle swung back in Mo­hammedan SC’s favour on the half-hour mark with a strike from Jaskaran­preet Singh.

But, once again, Prayag Unit­ed got back on lev­el terms, a minute be­fore the half-time whis­tle via Orao Ja­gan­nath.

On the re­sump­tion, both teams failed to re­dis­cov­er their scor­ing touch as the match end­ed in a 2-2 dead­lock , ex­tend­ing Mo­hammedan’s un­beat­en league run to three match­es.

On Sun­day, 30-year-old Joseph who played pre­vi­ous­ly for Goku­lam Kerela FC and scored 27 goals in 33 ap­pear­ances marked his club de­but with by head­ing in his team’s fi­nal item in the 77th minute of their 4-1 spank­ing of In­di­an Air Force in the open­ing match of the 2021 Du­rand Cup.

The trio of Mi­lan Singh (18th), Ar­i­jeet Singh and Azharud­din Mallick (45th) had giv­en Mo­hammedan SC a com­mand­ing 3-0 cush­ion be­fore Saurav Sadukhan got one back for Air Force a minute in­to the sec­ond-half.

Still in Asia, out-of-favour na­tion­al de­fend­er Daneil Cyrus made his de­but for Thai League 2 team Chainat Horn­bill FC in a 0-0 draw with Ra­jpracha FC.

Cu­pid on tar­get in Stony Brook Uni­ver­si­ty vic­to­ry

For­mer na­tion­al youth and Pre­sen­ta­tion Col­lege of San Fer­nan­do strik­er Ko­ri Cu­pid, 24, was among the goal as Stony Brook clawed their way to a nar­row 3-2 win over Drex­el Uni­ver­si­ty in over­time in the Amer­i­can East Con­fer­ence.

Mid­field­er Cameron Bon­fils sent the Stony Brook Uni­ver­si­ty men's foot­ball team home with a dra­mat­ic win at Drex­el as his gold­en goal in the sec­ond over­time proved to be the dif­fer­ence.

The se­nior broke the 2-2 tie in the 106th minute when he drove the ball in­to the back of the net from the top of the box to give the Sea­wolves their sec­ond win of the sea­son.

Stony Brook jumped on the board ear­ly in the game as Aki Solva­son wast­ed no time by tal­ly­ing the game's first goal in the fourth minute.

The Drag­ons re­spond­ed in the eighth minute with a goal of their own as Tia­go Teix­eira tied the game up at 1-1.

The game re­mained tied at 1-1 in­to the 48th minute when Drex­el took the ad­van­tage when Chris Dono­van gave the Drag­ons a 2-1 lead ear­ly in the sec­ond half.

Stony Brook con­tin­ued to fight and its re­lent­less ef­fort al­lowed the Sea­wolves to tie the game up in the 77th minute when Sean Towey sent per­fect ball in­to the box off a cor­ner kick that found grad­u­ate mid­field­er Cu­pid, who was able to shake loose of the Drex­el de­fend­ers and head the ball in­to the back of the net to knot the game up at 2-2, be­fore Bonvil’s over­time win­ner.

Ri­ley sal­vages draw for Flori­da In­ter­na­tion­al Uni­ver­si­ty

T&T’s Ka­reem Ri­ley net­ted a penal­ty to earn Flori­da In­ter­na­tion­al Uni­ver­si­ty (FIU) a 1-1 draw at the Uni­ver­si­ty of North Flori­da in their Con­fer­ence USA Con­fer­ence.

The 13th-ranked FIU men's soc­cer team out-shot the North Flori­da Os­preys by a tal­ly of 17-7 on Tues­day night, but in the end the Pan­thers set­tled for a 1-1 draw in Jack­sonville.

FIU's record now stands at 3-0-1 on the sea­son, while UNF is 2-1-1.

Af­ter giv­ing up their first goal of the sea­son in the 13th minute, the Pan­thers an­swered back just be­fore the half when Ri­ley scored on a penal­ty kick, his first goal of the sea­son.

Pe­ters named to USL Cham­pi­onship Team of the Week

Se­nior na­tion­al and Pitts­burgh River­hounds SC de­fend­er Je­lani Pe­ters was se­lect­ed to the Unit­ed Soc­cer League Cham­pi­onship Team of the Week for Week 20 of the sea­son, the league an­nounced on Wednes­day.

Pe­ters is a first-time Team of the Week ho­n­ouree whose head­ed goal hand­ed the Hounds a 1-0 win over the vis­it­ing New York Red Bulls II last Wednes­day.

The goal was the first for Pe­ters in USL with ei­ther the Hounds or Toron­to FC II, his first USL club.

For the week, Pe­ters played all 180 min­utes for the Hounds, which in­cludes the New York match and the 1-1 draw Sat­ur­day at San An­to­nio FC.

The 6-foot-5 cen­ter back record­ed 10 clear­ances, sev­en in­ter­cep­tions and won 8 of 9 tack­les across those two match­es.

A na­tive of Diego Mar­tin, Pe­ters this year was called up for the first time to the na­tion­al team and ap­peared for the So­ca War­riors in four match­es dur­ing qual­i­fy­ing and the group stage of the 2021 Gold Cup.

With the Hounds, his 813 min­utes played is the most he has logged in a USL sea­son.

Spicer nets tre­ble, named ASUN Play­er of the Week

Tyrese Spicer of Lip­scomb Uni­ver­si­ty was vot­ed the ASUN Con­fer­ence (for­mer­ly the Atleth­ic Sun Con­fer­ence) men's soc­cer Play­er of the Week as an­nounced by the league of­fice on Tues­day.

This af­ter Spicer, a for­mer St Au­gus­tine Sec­ondary and St Mary’s Col­lege strik­er Spicer record­ed a hat trick in the Lip­scomb Uni­ver­si­ty Bi­son's 4-1 come­back win at Evans­ville to earn his first ca­reer week­ly award.

For his stel­lar per­for­mance, Spicer be­came the 26th all-time ASUN Play­er of the Week award re­cip­i­ent as helped Lip­scomb to a 2-0 record.

He is cur­rent­ly ranked sec­ond in the na­tion and first in the con­fer­ence with ten points, with four goals and two as­sists as Lip­scomb is off to its best start in pro­gram his­to­ry at 4-0.

We­st­on lifts Turk­ish SWA Cup

Que­si We­st­on and Dumlupı­nar TSK lift­ed the Cyprus Turk­ish Sports Writ­ers As­so­ci­a­tion Cup af­ter a 3-2 win over Do­gan Türk Birli­gi SK. For his per­for­mance, We­st­on was vot­ed as the man-of-the-match.
