Nicholas Landeau of the One-A-Week (OAW) athletics club won the men’s 800 metres and 1,500m races at the NGC NAATT Open Championships which ended at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, on Sunday.
On the first day of the two-day meet on Saturday, Landeau copped the men’s 1,500m in four minutes and 00.12 seconds ahead of Nicholas Romany (TTRRC) with 4:01.74, and 2022 Carifta champion Keeran Sriskandarajah of Memphis Pioneers, 4:03.43.
Landeau, the 2011 Carifta 1,500m/3,000m gold medallist returned yesterday to dominate the 800m. The UK-based athlete led from the start and opened a 50m gap at the bell. Landeau closed the line in 1:50.19 with Sriskandarajah in second (1:55.63) and Matthew Pulchan of Palo Seco in third in 1:59.14.
Romany rebounded to win the 5,000m yesterday completing the 12 1/2 laps in 15:17.95. Colin Perreira (TTDF) landed in second spot (16:07.35) ahead of Donnell Francis (MAP) with 16:10.
Triple NACAC U18 medallist Keneisha Shelbourne of Oasics won the women’s triple jump and high jump titles, yesterday. Shelbourne cleared 1.68m to win the women’s high jump ahead of NACAC U-18 girls heptathlon silver medallist Tenique Vincent (Concorde) 1.63m. In the triple jump, Shelbourne was the lone competitor and had a best effort of 11.38.
Abilene Wildcats sprinter Reyare Thomas (Abilene Wildcats) and Kyle Greaux ran away with the 200m crowns.
Thomas took the women’s half-lap in 23.50 ahead of NACAC U-18 long jump gold medallist Janae De Gannes (Concorde), 24.34, and Kaziah Peters of Simplex (24.35). Thomas was second in the 100m on Saturday.
De Gannes returned to the track to anchor Concorde to victory in the women’s 4x100m. The Bishops Anstey student combined with fellow NACAC U-18 gold medallist Symphony Patrick (4x100m) and Giana Paul (Heptathlon, 4x100m) and NACAC U-23 4x100m bronze medallist Akilah Lewis to beat Simplex (46.31) for the gold with 45.55. In third place was Phoenix Athletics with 49.16.
Greaux took the men’s 200m (20.74) to deny 100m winner Devin Augustine of Point Fortin New Jets (20.72), the sprint double. Another Abilene Wildcats sprinter Jerod Elcock was third (20.87). Reigning two-time Commonwealth Games champ Jereem Richards did not compete in the final after clocking 21.25 in the preliminaries earlier in the afternoon.
Cherisse Murray (Toco TAFAC) claimed the women’s shot put honours with a 16.67m effort. The Alabama University Masters student came out ahead of Jinelle Campbell (Mason Hall Police Youth), 12.85 and NACAC U-18 winner Peyton Winter of Burnley (12.21) and multiple World Masters champion MAP’S Gwendolyn Smith (10.98).
Andrea Foster and Emmanuel Archibald of Guyana impressed with double wins Foster topped the Women's 400m (55.08) and the 400m hurdles (1:02.14) while Archibald landed the International men's 209m (20.49) and the long jump (7.60m)
