Carenage Blasters moved to the top of the Caroni Zone Open Table Tennis League with a 3-1 win over Couva B on Wednesday night at T&TEC Sports Club, Woodbrook.
A former Caribbean Junior Table Tennis Championship medal winner and recent Top Six finisher in the Super Singles at the National Racket Centre, Tacarigua, Luc O’Young brushed aside Rajkumar Beepat 11-5, 11-5, 11-4 and Rachad Singh 11-4, 11-7, 11-3 while Nicholas Lee spanked Singh 11-5, 11-4, 11-2 for Blasters three wins.
Ronnie Guevara got Couva B’s win on the night, 12-10, 11-8, 3-11, 5-11, 11-9 against Nicholas O’Young.
The 3-1 victory lifted Blasters to a 4-1 record and nine points, one ahead of the unbeaten Queen’s Park Cricket Club (4-0) while Warrenville United and D’Abadie Youths also have eight points, but from 3-2 records.
On Tuesday, Sherdon Pierre won both his matches to lead D’Abadie Youths to a similar 3-1 beating of Warrenville United B at the D’Abadie Community Centre, D’Abadie, Arima.
Pierre beat Adesh Ramphalie 13-11, 11-9, 11-6 and Vasesh Ramphalie 11-7, 11-5, 13-11.
Carlisle Cleveland had the other win for D’Abadie Youths, 9-11, 11-8, 11-9, 4-11, 11-18 against Asesh Ramphalie while Shahijahan Khan defeated Daryl Rampersad 12-10, 7-11, 12-10, 11-6 for Warrenville’s lone win.
