Former international football players Gary Glasgow and Glenton Wolfe were on target for Maitagual M-Pire Organs to lead them past Madrid Reload and into the semifinals of the “Big 8” competition in the Tyro Sports Club Over-45 seven-a-side hockey-size football league.
This was in the second of two quarterfinal matches played at Gabba Grounds in Lower Santa Cruz on Thursday evening and it was Maitagual M-Pire Organs coming away with a 3-1 win.
Glasgow produced a double while Wolfe netted the other to eliminate Madrid Reload and book a spot in the semifinals against Tornadoes on Tuesday.
Fergus Balbosa scored the consolation goal for Madrid Reload.
Earlier, Randy Ramcharan produced the winning item for San Juan San Juan to edge One is One, 1-0, and progressed to meet the winner of the first round, Old Timers, in the other semifinal match-up.
Old Timers and Tornadoes, by virtue of finishing as the top two teams, respectively, in the preliminary round automatically qualified for the semifinals.
The winners of the today’s semifinals will face on Saturday to crown the champion while the losing semifinalists will meed in the third place playoffs.
Teams are competing for the top prize of $3,500 in the “Big 8” competition. The winner will also receive a trophy plus a replica while the next three places will take home a trophy with second place collecting $1,500, third $500, and fourth $400.
