T&T's Jahreef Miguel and Jerome Morrison ended their campaign on a high with a ninth-place finish in the Under-23 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tour at Seven Miles Beach, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands on Sunday (June 22).
This after Miguel and Morrison outlasted Barbadians Nkoys Williams and Aaron Taylor, the winners of the U-21 boys' title on Thursday at the same venue, 17-21, 21-17, 15-13 in 44 minutes.
Facing off with Jamaicans Love-Let Bake and Ithran Softley in the ninth to 12th semifinals, Miguel and Morrison triumphed 21-10, 21-12 while Williams and Taylor defeated Arubans Thelion Coutinho and Jeandre Kock 21-17, 23-21.
Earlier in the round-robin pool play, Miguel and Morrison defeated US Virgin Islands' Armani Anderson and Aden Rojas 21-10, 21-11 in Pool A, but fell to both Cayman Islands' Stephen Watson and Dylan Lynee 18-21, 12-21 and Canada's Brandon Burnside and Reed Venning 11-21, 11-21.
However, the T&T women's duo of Meeka Johnson and L'fe Roberts missed out on a top ten finish in the 14th team tournament after they were beaten by ninth to 12th semifinal by Canada-B's Claire Neagle and Nolyn Houbeen in three sets, 19-21, 21-17, 15-12 in 46 minutes while Cayman Islands-B duo, Luna Ebanks and Brianna Delapenha defaulted against US Virgin Islands' D'Keisha Jordan and Brooklyn Donovan.
Johnson and Roberts then won their 11th spot playoff over Jordan and Donovan, 21-17, 21-14 in 33 minutes.
When the tournament served off on Friday, Johnson and Roberts were outplayed in their Pool A matches, first by Bermudans Megan Hands and Hailey Moss 7-21, 15-21 and then by Cayman Islands' Joanna Robinson and Anjia Delapenha 21-19, 8-21, 10-15.
