The Mohammed siblings, Lily and Naomi, had positive starts at yesterday's COTECC Under-14 Summer Bowl Tournament which got underway at the National Racquet Centre in Orange Grove, Tacarigua.
Ranked sixth and fifth in their age divisions, respectively, both bidding for a place in the main draw Monday, got contrasting victories. Lily earned a walk-over victory over Anneleise Orr on court eight, while her sister Naomi took two sets to get rid of Suri Ramcharan, 4-2, 4-2.
Abba Campbell-Smith, seeded fourth, prevented the other Mohammed sister, Karissa, from a perfect start. Campbell-Smith, a double crown winner at the Catch National Junior Tennis Championship that was hosted by the Tennis Association of T&T (TennisTT) earlier this year, defeated Karissa 4-0, 4-1 on court seven.
Shiloh Walker, who had little success in the RBC Tobago Junior Tennis Tournament two weeks ago, hardly broke a sweat in disposing of Cyra Ramcharan 4-1, 4-0, while St Lucia's Jaelyn Henry turned back the seventh-ranked Elyse Ferguson 4-2, 5-3, playing on the sixth court, and Taegan Yeates clobbered Anya Romany 4-2, 4-0.
Among the boys, third-ranked Dimitri Kirton of Barbados had a flawless victory over Rodello Boodhan of T&T, Jacob Jacelon prevailed over Jaiden Gormandy 4-0, 4-0 in his first match.
He then returned to the court later to defeat Jacob Jacelon 4-2, 4-0.
Meanwhile, Josiah Hills, a triple crown winner at the recent RBC Tobago Tennis tournament, went down to Mateo Gutierrez of El Salvador 4-2, 5-3, while Brian Harricharan took three sets to get rid of Barbados' Zach King, 4-2, 2-4, 4-1.
In other boys U-14 results, Nirav Dougdeen defeated Jack Brown 4-0, 4-1; Ethan Warner of Barbados reigned supreme over Novak Malcolm 5-3, 4-1; Darius Rahaman defeated Christopher Khan 4-1, 5-3; Zane Kirton (Barbados) clobbered Justin Horsford 4-1, 4-1; and Brandon Bridgewater of Curacao took care of Jaysean Wells 4-0, 4-1.
