Thirty-nine horses have taken entry for Friday’s seven-race card of the Arima Race Club (ARC) at Santa Rosa Park, Arima. On Friday which is Emancipation Day, turfites and punters alike will see the second jewel of local racing’s Triple Crown, the Grade One Midsummer Classic being run off over 1,800 metres on the turf course.
This race pits the John O’Brien-trained unbeaten three-year-old Headliner against six rivals inclusive of stablemate Soca Ecstacy which won impressively last time out.
Another important feature is the return of the champion horse of T&T, Hello World which will be racing after winning the Tanglewood Stakes in Barbados. He will return for the Poon Tip Stud Farm in the Modified Benchmark Handicap over 1,600m on the turf course.
Champion trainer O’Brien has his string ready for action and will be attacking six of the seven events.
In the Midsummer Classic, O’Brien saddles two runners, Headliner and Soca Ecstacy and has two in the co-feature sixth event with Hello World and Crown Prince. The Midsummer Classic has a purse of $87,416.
Jonathan Lyder also has two runners in Showtime and Supreme Power while Glen Emmanuel saddles Free Pass and Jose Williams Samaroo has The Falcon engaged. The final horse in the event is the Terrence Thomas newcomer Just Issa Bella.
O’Brien continues his great form after winning the Grade One - Tangle wood Stakes in Barbados. He has won every major event contested at Santa Rosa Park this season.
When entries were taken yesterday a total on 39 horses are considered for the Arima Race Club’s (ARC) seven-race card.
