T&T has not been hav­ing the best of tour­na­ments in the ring in Poland.

Box­ers Nigel Paul and Or­te­ga Jokhu both lost their semi­fi­nal fights of the XXXVII Fe­liks Stamm In­ter­na­tion­al Box­ing Tour­na­ment 5-0 and 3-2, re­spec­tive­ly, on Thurs­day.

Paul, the su­per heavy­weight fight­er who fought with cred­it at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and in 2021 when he won a bronze medal at the In­ter­na­tion­al Box­ing Cham­pi­onships in Bel­grade, Ser­bia, was far from his best, hav­ing re­cent­ly re­turned from in­jury.

He went down to a heavy de­feat to De­li­cious Orie of Great Britain. The bulky T&T fight­er nev­er had a prayer of a pos­si­ble vic­to­ry as all five judges ruled against him. Poland's Ar­tur Goluchu called it 26-30, Italy's Veroni­ka Pausigliore 27-30, Poland's An­drzej Cz­er­win­s­ki 27-30, Ar­tur Chlewin­s­ki 26-30 and Valery Pas­tu­chov 27-30, all against the Trinida­di­an.

Jokhu on the oth­er hand, was edged in his 51kg con­test by Jakub Slomin­s­ki of Poland.

T&T will now have one more roll of the dice at a chance of a medal to­day when An­gel George will match fists with Sue-Em­ma Green­tree of Aus­tria in a 91kg fi­nal bout. Both fight­ers will con­test the fi­nal due to the small num­ber of fight­ers in the di­vi­sion.

The fight­ers have been us­ing the tour­na­ment as prepa­ra­tion for the com­ing Cen­tral Amer­i­can and Caribbean (CAC) Games in El Sal­vador from June 19 to Ju­ly 8, and the Pan Amer­i­can Games lat­er in the year.
