Presentation College continued a wonderful season by adding the PowerGen Secondary Schools South Under-16 title to the team's trophy cabinet.
Presentation having already won the Championship Division to gain promotion to the Premiership next year, defeated its arch-rivals Naparima College in the final on Tuesday at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, San Fernando.
Batting first, Naparima lost early wickets and if it was not for an excellent 67 from skipper Darren Samlal, the team would not have reached 140 all out. Samlal, the left-hander was brutal on the Presentation attack and struck seven fours in his innings. The only other batsmen getting into double figures were openers Kyle Roopchand 14 and Romario King 16.
Bowling for Presentation College, left-arm orthodox spinner Brian Williams was effective in taking 2/28, while skipper Rodney Beharry claimed 2/11 and Varoon Lalbeharry 2/29.
When Presentation started its reply, opener Khaleem Mohammed was aggressive and tore into the Naps bowling. However, he fell to Vishwesh Pattnaik for 18 and soon after Mathew Cooper got into the act to claim three wickets and reduce the team at one point to 51/5.
Nickyle Jalim then stood firm and was able to defy the Naparima bowlers, taking his team home with 40 well-earned runs. Towards the end, Lalbeharry also stood firm with an unbeaten 19.
