Mis­cel­la­neous Po­lice FC missed the chance to close the gap on lead­ers AC Port-of-Spain (AC PoS) to one point at the top of the 11-club T&T Pre­mier Foot­ball League (TTPFL) Tier I Di­vi­sion af­ter a bat­tling 2-2 draw with host Ter­minix La Hor­quet­ta Rangers in the fea­ture match of a dou­ble-head­er at the Phase II Recre­ation Ground, La Hor­quet­ta on Sat­ur­day night.

With the point earned, Po­lice moved in­to sole pos­ses­sion of the sec­ond spot with 18 points from nine match­es, three be­hind AC PoS who have played a match less, while de­fend­ing cham­pi­ons T&T De­fence Force and Tiger Tanks Club San­do both have 17 points from eight match­es as well, with Rangers, a dis­tant fifth with 13 points.

At La Hor­quet­ta, both Po­lice and Rangers threat­ened in the first half with Alvin Jones go­ing close for the Law­men ear­ly on be­fore he was called in­to ac­tion at the oth­er end to de­ny Rangers cap­tain Ty­rone Charles from putting his team ahead, which was fol­lowed by a goalline clear­ance from fel­low de­fend­er Robert Primus to keep out a Ross Rus­sell Jr at­tempt for Rangers as well as the half end­ed goal­less.

How­ev­er, Rangers fi­nal­ly broke the dead­lock in the 56th minute when a right-foot­ed ef­fort from Isa­iah Lee was com­plete­ly mis­han­dled by goal­keep­er Adri­an Fon­cette.

But, that lead on­ly last­ed nine min­utes be­fore Primus head­ed home the Law­men’s equalis­er off the far post from a well-flight­ed Jo­evin Jones left-sided free-kick, just out­side the 18-yard box.

The for­mer USA-Ma­jor League Soc­cer-based Jones then buried a trade-mark left-foot­ed free-kick to put Po­lice ahead in the 77th minute, and his strike looked well set to give his team all three points, un­til three min­utes in­to time added-on when team-mate Willis Plaza, at­tempt­ed head­ed clear­ance from a Josi­ah Ed­wards cor­ner for Rangers, flew in­to his own net past a stunned Fon­cette to give the host a share of the points.

Ear­li­er on in the open­ing match, vet­er­an strik­er, Kevon Wood­ley scored a dou­ble to lead Ea­gles FC past Cen­tral FC 3-1 in their bot­tom-of-the-clash

Ea­gles flew out the gates from as ear­ly as the third minute through Ex­ilus An­ge­lo while Wood­ley made it 2-0 four min­utes lat­er.

Any chances of Cen­tral FC claw­ing their way back in­to the con­test took a se­vere dent in the 74th minute when de­fend­er Cleve­land Cam­bridge was is­sued a straight red card for a pro­fes­sion­al foul on Wood­ley, and five min­utes, the lat­ter ex­tend­ed the lead to 3-0 be­fore Lewin Ca­ballero net­ted an 84th con­so­la­tion item.

On Fri­day, Isa­iah Lea­cock fired in a hat-trick to lead AC PoS past Prison Ser­vice at the Hase­ly Craw­ford Sta­di­um, Mu­cu­rapo while Club San­do edged Cale­do­nia AIA 2-1, and Her­itage Pe­tro­le­um Point Fortin Civic Cen­tre al­so won 2-1 over 1976 FC Phoenix.
