Richards Jr shoots 73 on Day 2 of Caribbean Championships

Christo­pher Richards Jr moved two spots up the leader­board from 15th on day one to 13th when he shot 73 on the sec­ond day of the 67th Caribbean Am­a­teur Se­nior Golf Cham­pi­onship at the Iberostar Golf Course in Bavaro, Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic, yes­ter­day.

Richards Jr shot a 75 on the open­ing day on Wednes­day. 

Ro­dri­go Huer­ta of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic ex­tend­ed his lead by three strokes af­ter he re­peat­ed Wednes­day’s 69 for a to­tal of 138, with Juan Cay­ro De­la­ga­do of the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic (71) leap-frog­ging Max Alve­rio of Puer­to Ri­co (72) in­to sec­ond place. Both De­la­ga­do and Alve­rio are tied at 141, fol­lowed by Kelvin Her­nan­dez of Puer­to Ri­co fourth with a 70 and a to­tal of 142, and Roc­co Lopez of Ja­maica fifth af­ter post­ing 71 for a two-day to­tal of 143.

T&T’s Liam Bry­den du­pli­cat­ed his per­for­mance on Wednes­day with an­oth­er round of 75 to hold on to the 15th po­si­tion, with com­pa­tri­ot Ryan Gomez tak­ing a slide down the leader­board from 18th to 20th with a 75. Ay­den Ali made sig­nif­i­cant strides to move from 37th to 28th be­hind an im­proved score of 72 for an over­all score of 156. 

T&T skip­per Ryan Pe­ters, who start­ed day two in the 32nd po­si­tion with a score of 81, im­proved by four strokes for a 77 to oc­cu­py the 28th spot, while team­mate Jean-Marc Chevrotiere was one shot bet­ter than his first-round score of 87 for a to­tal of 173. Round two saw 49 play­ers take to the course.

In the Ho­er­man Cup Di­vi­sion, T&T main­tains its fifth place on the nine-team stand­ings with a gross plus 26, while Puer­to Ri­co leads with a mi­nus sev­en, fol­lowed by the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic with a mi­nus six, Ja­maica next on plus 14, and the Ba­hamas fourth on a plus 25 to round off the top five of nine teams. 

In oth­er scores, the Cay­man Is­lands are sixth with a plus 44, the US Vir­gin Is­lands (7th) with a plus 50, Bar­ba­dos (8th) with a plus 66, and the Turks and Caicos Is­lands (9th) with a plus 156. 

In the in­di­vid­ual women’s di­vi­sion play, T&T cap­tain Vic­to­ria Seenath im­proved her play by five shots to shoot a 76 to move from 12th to 10th, while Elise Bor­de and Chole Ajod­ha, who were tied for 14th place on day one, have been sep­a­rat­ed.

Ajod­ha shot an­oth­er round of 84 for an over­all score of 168 and dropped one spot to 15th, while Bor­de dropped to 17th af­ter she shot 85. Zoe Cor­reia im­proved one po­si­tion to 20th, be­hind a score of 87 from the 22 play­ers who com­plet­ed the course.

T&T, who start­ed the day tied for fourth with the Ba­hamas in the George Teale team com­pe­ti­tion, falls to fifth with a score of plus 37. Puer­to Ri­co has tak­en over the lead on the six-team ta­ble from Ja­maica with a mi­nus-six, while Ja­maica is even. The Ba­hamas is third with a plus 23, the Do­mini­can Re­pub­lic is next with a plus 29, and the Cay­man Is­lands are sixth with a plus 51. No score has been record­ed for the US Vir­gin Is­lands.
