Christopher Richards Jr moved two spots up the leaderboard from 15th on day one to 13th when he shot 73 on the second day of the 67th Caribbean Amateur Senior Golf Championship at the Iberostar Golf Course in Bavaro, Dominican Republic, yesterday.
Richards Jr shot a 75 on the opening day on Wednesday.
Rodrigo Huerta of the Dominican Republic extended his lead by three strokes after he repeated Wednesday’s 69 for a total of 138, with Juan Cayro Delagado of the Dominican Republic (71) leap-frogging Max Alverio of Puerto Rico (72) into second place. Both Delagado and Alverio are tied at 141, followed by Kelvin Hernandez of Puerto Rico fourth with a 70 and a total of 142, and Rocco Lopez of Jamaica fifth after posting 71 for a two-day total of 143.
T&T’s Liam Bryden duplicated his performance on Wednesday with another round of 75 to hold on to the 15th position, with compatriot Ryan Gomez taking a slide down the leaderboard from 18th to 20th with a 75. Ayden Ali made significant strides to move from 37th to 28th behind an improved score of 72 for an overall score of 156.
T&T skipper Ryan Peters, who started day two in the 32nd position with a score of 81, improved by four strokes for a 77 to occupy the 28th spot, while teammate Jean-Marc Chevrotiere was one shot better than his first-round score of 87 for a total of 173. Round two saw 49 players take to the course.
In the Hoerman Cup Division, T&T maintains its fifth place on the nine-team standings with a gross plus 26, while Puerto Rico leads with a minus seven, followed by the Dominican Republic with a minus six, Jamaica next on plus 14, and the Bahamas fourth on a plus 25 to round off the top five of nine teams.
In other scores, the Cayman Islands are sixth with a plus 44, the US Virgin Islands (7th) with a plus 50, Barbados (8th) with a plus 66, and the Turks and Caicos Islands (9th) with a plus 156.
In the individual women’s division play, T&T captain Victoria Seenath improved her play by five shots to shoot a 76 to move from 12th to 10th, while Elise Borde and Chole Ajodha, who were tied for 14th place on day one, have been separated.
Ajodha shot another round of 84 for an overall score of 168 and dropped one spot to 15th, while Borde dropped to 17th after she shot 85. Zoe Correia improved one position to 20th, behind a score of 87 from the 22 players who completed the course.
T&T, who started the day tied for fourth with the Bahamas in the George Teale team competition, falls to fifth with a score of plus 37. Puerto Rico has taken over the lead on the six-team table from Jamaica with a minus-six, while Jamaica is even. The Bahamas is third with a plus 23, the Dominican Republic is next with a plus 29, and the Cayman Islands are sixth with a plus 51. No score has been recorded for the US Virgin Islands.
