The Luces Brothers Memorial Cycle Classic is set to unfold on March 20 at the historic Ian Atherly Cycle Track, Skinner Park, San Fernando, from 5 pm.
This annual event, being staged by the Rigtech Sonics Cycle Club, will honour Noel and Kent Luces, past national cyclists, senior Sonics members, and club head coaches whose lives and contributions left an indelible mark on the sport. Noel passed in 2012 and Kent in 2014, and the Classic stands as a living tribute to their legacy.
Since its inception in 2013, and with the exception of two years during the pandemic, the Luces Brothers Memorial Cycle Classic has evolved into one of the most anticipated fixtures on the national cycling calendar. It continues to embody the spirit of community engagement, encouraging youth participation and inspiring the next generation to embrace cycling as a pathway to discipline, health, and achievement.
Spectators can look forward to an action-packed programme featuring keirin, team sprint, elimination (Devil Take the Hindmost) and many more thrilling events
The Classic also serves as an official qualifier for the T&T Cycling Federation’s Easter International Grand Prix, ensuring that fans will witness the nation’s top elite riders vying for coveted spots on the national team. Regional riders currently training in T&T will also compete, adding further excitement and prestige to the evening. The Rigtech Sonics Cycle Club extends heartfelt gratitude to its loyal sponsors, whose unwavering support has sustained the Classic year after year. With Skinner Park already being prepared for action following the recent Carnival festivities, everything is in place for a spectacular evening of cycling excellence.
This year’s Classic also coincides with a festive sporting weekend: March 20 is a public holiday for Eid-ul-Fitr, and the renowned Southern Games are scheduled for March 21-22 at the same venue, making Skinner Park the epicentre of sport and celebration.
The cover charge to attend the event is $60 for adults, $20 for children under 12, and those under five are free of charge.
