Jelani Roberts registered five goals and Jaheem Benjamin a hat-trick to lead Forrester Football to an emphatic 13-3 thumping of Hamilton Hawks in Week Three of the South South Zone in the West Penn Islandwide Community Youth (Under-21) Football Tournament.
Competing at the Grand Chemin Recreation Ground in the 32-team tournament hosted by the West Penn Center for Sports and Culture and held in conjunction with RBC Royal Bank of T&T.
Roberts got his goals in the 55th, 61st, 80th, 85th, and 89th minutes while Benjamin netted his goals in the 22nd, 26th, and 77th.
Chad Francois added a pair of goals for Forrester Football in the 63rd, and 89th minutes while Nigel Cowan (33rd), Josiah Barrington (39th), and Jaheim Arrindell (79th) chipped in with one each with Hamilton Hawks getting a goal each from Joevon George (16th), Andell Alleyne (50th), and Kaiel Cooper (60th).
In the other match in the South Zone, Mascall Football Academy ‘A’ crushed Mascall Football Academy ‘B’ 7-0 led by Jeremiah Ottaway’s hat-trick in the 24th, 47th, and 49th minutes.
The quartet of Akano Sydney (18th), Matthew-Lee Cummings (33rd), La Bron Williams (63rd) and Alex Wilkinson (83rd) also netted for Mascall Football Academy ‘A’ in the one-sided contest.
This year’s tournament features teams competing in the Near East (Santa Cruz, Police Barracks, Africa Ground Enterprise Chaguanas); Far East (Eddie Hart Savannah); North/East (Valencia Grande Toci Manzanilla Grounds); South Central (Leo Thompson Ground Gasparillo); South West (Erin Ground, Guapo Recreation Ground) and South (Gran Chemin Recreation Ground).
At the conclusion of the 32-team preliminary zonal round-robin format, the best 16 teams will advance to the knockout round which will be contested on a home-and-away basis followed by the quarterfinals, semifinals and final day third place and final on August 16.
This year, more than $70,000 in cash prizes along with trophies, medals and certificates will be on offer to the participating teams.
In addition to the league matches, there are also plans for a post-tournament All Star Team recognition through scouting which will help showcase their talents for local and foreign coaches in exhibition games featuring zonal representative teams.
