On a bright and sunny Monday morning, Rosary Boys’ RC started their campaign in the Port-of-Spain and Environs Under-15 competition of the Primary Schools Football League on a winning note at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Mucurapo.
Rosary Boys slammed Gloster Lodge Moravian 6-1 to make a winning start. Jamali Spencer scored four of the six goals for his team while Nathan La Foucade and Jakffin King each added one. Akeem McIntosh scored the lone item for Gloster Lodge.
In the second game of the morning, last year’s champion Nelson Street Boys’ RC School battled hard against Bethlehem Boys’ RC but was unable to find the net. The game ended in a goalless draw.
However, in the final game of the day, Diamond Vale Government School finally put their mark on the tournament when they beat Morvant New Government, 5-2. Diamond Vale led 2-0 in the first 17 minutes with Tsean Alfred’s two goals.
However, Morvant battled back and got the first item in the 20th minute when Josiah Aberdeen blasted a 20-metre shot past the custodian. They equalised three minutes later when Shaquille Tom placed a good right-footed drive to tie the score before the half-time whistle.
On Tuesday in the U-15 girls’ competition, St Crispin AC beat Diego Martin Government in a thriller between the two of the best teams in the competition.
Diego Martin’s Keanna Cummings taunted the St Crispin’s defence and Asia Charles did just that to Diego Martin’s defence.
The score was 0-0 in the first half. However, the school which brought out supporters and the musical band had something to cheer for when Charles latched on to a ball some 20 metres from the goal and dribbled past three players before sending a beautiful right-footer past the custodian.
In the second match, the Diamond Vale Government girls’ team came out flying and within 10 minutes, led rival Gloster Lodge Moravian through Kala Benjamin. In the second session, Janience Fox and Deja Khan added to the tally.
On Wednesday, the U-12 competition continued and Carenage Government was out flying and they scored their first goal in the game against Escallier AC with only two minutes gone. The scorer of the goal was Malachi Lansiquot who scored all four goals in a Carenage Boys’ victory over Escallier AC. The scorer for Escallier was Jalon Stephen.
Diamond Vale Government hammered Maple Leaf International 11-1.
Diamond Vale had control of the game and scored consistently in the 40-minute encounter. Fiovanni Greighton scored five goals and was ably assisted by Timothy Ferron with three and Tsean Alfred with three. Maple Leaf’s lone goal came from Nathan Bartlett, two minutes from the end of the game.
In another game between Rosary Boys’ RC and Belmont Government, no school would give in and the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
Jamali Spencer scored for Rosary while Mikkel McKie responded for Belmont Government.
Ascension AC led St Crispin AC 1-0 for the entire first half. However, the Woodbrook team came back to score on three occasions to win the game, 3-1. They got goals from Kwasie Thomas, Khalil Derrick and Joshua Jules.
On Thursday, the U-12 competition continued and Nelson Street Boys’ RC battled long and hard to get the better of St Andrews Private School at the Hasely Crawford Stadium. Nelson Street went into the lead in the 11th minute through Kazim George but St Andrews responded in the 17th minute to equalise through Greyson Franco’s left-footed strike.
The battle continued in the second session and Kazim George became Nelson Street’s hero when he placed a right-footed pass into the net, to give Nelson Street Boys’ RC victory.
Morvant Anglican continued their winning form with a 5-0 beating of Belmont Boys’ RC.
International School of Port-of-Spain (ISPS) came good in their game against Hokett Baptist when they beat their rival 5-2.
Connor Naggs got a double for ISPS with Michael Rizk, Andres Aguilera and Aydi Keshani adding one each with an own goal from Hokett Baptist. Hokett Baptist scored twice through Jassiana Gookie and Alex Thomas.
In the main game of the day, the two unbeaten teams, Richmond Street Boys’ AC and Madressa Al Muslimeen battled each other with the former winning impressively, 5-0.
In the final game on Thursday, Diego Martin Government edged St Agnes AC 1-0 to take the honours. Sherwin John was the marksman.
