The Rotary Club of Port-of-Spain officially launched the 34th annual District Games for Primary Schools on Tuesday, reaffirming its commitment to youth development through sport.
The media launch and luncheon, held at Goodwill Industries, brought together key stakeholders, sponsors and sporting bodies to introduce the upcoming games to the national community.
Sponsors supporting this year’s event include Signwave Ltd, Blue Waters Products Ltd, Nestlé Trinidad and Tobago Ltd, Carib Brewery Ltd, ANSA McAL Ltd and National Petroleum Marketing Company Ltd.
Also present were representatives from the National Association of Athletics Administrations of Trinidad and Tobago (NAAA), the Trinidad and Tobago Olympic Committee, and School Supervisor II for Port-of-Spain and Environs, Carl Thomas.
Over the years, the District Games have evolved into more than just a sporting competition. The programme serves as a critical platform for instilling discipline, teamwork, and healthy lifestyles in young athletes, helping to shape their personalities both on and off the field.
Chairman of the Rotary Games and immediate past president, Anthony Andrews, underscored the importance of the initiative, noting its lasting impact on participants beyond their school years.
“Rotary Games in itself brings a base form for discipline, and on this discipline, after the games, if they want to get into whatever profession, we have seen where that discipline through sports allows them to be successful in their professional fields,” Andrews said.
The 34th edition of the District Games is set to begin on April 21, bringing together young athletes from across the capital and its environs for another showcase of talent and development.
The Rotary District Games continue to stand as one of Trinidad and Tobago’s key youth development programmes, using sport as a foundation to build confidence, nurture talent and prepare the next generation for success in all aspects of life.
