Shan­non Sports scored a nail-bit­ing five-wick­et win over Bourg Mu­la­tresse on day two of the North Zone Crick­et Coun­cil T20 Fes­ti­val on Thurs­day evening at the Diego Mar­tin Re­gion­al Sports Com­plex.

Iqwe Craig’s dom­i­nant in­nings of 69 not out from 44 balls en­abled Shan­non to take the top spot of Group Two.

Bourg Mu­la­tresse lost three ear­ly wick­ets and were 23 for three af­ter four overs, with Rasheed Mo­hammed (3), An­tho­ny Du­rant (1), and Tri Richards (8) all back in the pavil­ion, with Rod­dy Ju­man tak­ing two of the wick­ets.

Open­er Aaron Dass tried at the top, but he too suc­cumbed to Shan­non, who won the North Zone Di­vi­sion Two this year. For­mer na­tion­al Un­der-20 cap­tain, Joshua Davis, bowled Dass with the score on 59 and with the score of 79 in the 11th over, trapped Keron Bal­bosa for one.

Kevin Hold­er, like his name­sake Ja­son, who scored an un­beat­en 51 for the Bar­ba­dos Roy­als at the time across the Caribbean Sea at the Kens­ing­ton Oval in Bar­ba­dos, scored 53 not out from 38 balls and was sup­port­ed by Mark Apari­cio, who added 30. They shared in a 33-run stand.

To­geth­er, they took the score to 164 for six from their 20 overs.

Davis took two for 19 while Na­tion­al U-17 fast bowler Re­nal­do Fournil­li­er took two for 28. Rod­dy Ju­man al­so took two wick­ets.

Shan­non got off to a ter­ri­ble start when Way­lon George was out caught and bowled by Ben­ny Hal­lal for a duck, and the wick­et of Re­shawn Guer­vara (10) pushed them back to 40 for two.

Two more wick­ets, Davis (32) and Nigel Ben­jamin, brought ‘Bourg’ back in­to the match but Craig took the bull by the horns.

Craig hit 69 not out with three six­es and four fours to bring Shan­non back in­to con­tention.

First sup­port­ed by Kelvin ‘Kun­ta’ John (19) and Fournil­li­er (23 not out), Shan­non reached 170 for five with one ball to spare.

To­day, Bri­an Charles Lara, the “Prince of Port-of-Spain,” will make his way to the crease for Har­vard Sports Club when it faces Ebony Sports & Cul­tur­al in their open­er at 6.30 pm.

Har­vard is com­pet­ing in Group One along­side Com­bine All Stars, San­ta Cruz Sports, Barataria Ball Play­ers and Ebony Sports.

In Group Two are Gleno­ra Sports, North Side Fu­ture Stars, last year’s run­ners-up, Sa­van­nah Boys, Bourg Mu­la­tresse CCC, and Shan­non Sports.
