Signal Hill Secondary’s hopes for glory in this year’s Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Shell/First Citizens Intercol girls’ final were killed off by Pleasantville Secondary’s Alexcia Ali at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on Tuesday.

Ali scored a hat-trick to steer her team to their first ever national Intercol title 3-0.

After the teams could not break each other’s defences in first half, Ali broke the deadlock in the 46th minute when she shot into an empty net after eluding two Signal Hill defenders and leaving goalie Aaliyah Alvarez stranded.

Twelve minutes later Ali made it 2-0 as she took advantage of defender Jelese Alexander’s inability to clear a ball before lobbing Alvarez.

Signal Hill tried to mount a comeback through attacks by captain Ashante Campbell, Twinkle Thomas and Gamelia Waldron, but they were all disrupted by the Pleasantville defenders.

Ali finally killed off the game in the 76th minute with a powerful blast which keeper Alvarez got her hand to but could not prevent the ball from entering the net.

This was the second time Pleasantville had topped Signal Hill in a national final this season. They also them 2-0 in the Big Five final.
