On December 6, Santa Rosa Park in Arima will be turned into a battleground when the 2025 Grade One Stewards Cup is run off over 1,200 metres.
Last year's winner, Sneaky Cheeky, has drawn stall one for her title defence on day 11 of the Arima Race Club's (ARC) racing programme. However, the mare will need to be at her ultimate best to stave off the challenge of the three John O'Brien-trained runners: Headliner, Hello World, and The Goddess Nike. The last runner in the Stewards Cup is C'est La Vie, the third-placed horse in the 2024 event.
Trainer Ramesh Ramroop must feel he is in the driver's seat, as his mare, Sneaky Cheeky, will be ridden by Tristan Phillips, who will be seeking to win the race aboard the mare for the second time. Sneaky Cheeky has been allotted 54 kgs and has a great chance of back-to-back successes.
Champion trainer O'Brien's Triple Crown winner, the Diane Scott-owned Headliner, must have an outstanding chance of continuing his unbeaten record. Headliner, which will be ridden by Brian Boodramsingh, has made the running in every one of his Triple Crown successes and must be considered a top contender for the Stewards Cup.
Hello World won in Barbados and returned to win six months later in tremendous fashion. However, he has not won over 1,200m for a long time, and that distance will be a disadvantage for him this year, despite galloping well recently. Hello World will be ridden by Dillon Khelawan.
C'est La Vie which ran an excellent race in this event last year will attempt to get a great run in this event.
When entries were made yesterday, 36 horses were declared for ARC Day 11. The second juvenile event will be run off on Saturday, where five horses are entered for the 1,100m Native Bred Maiden event.
