T&T Soca Warriors coach Dwight Yorke and his squad are expected to resume preparations for their second round Concacaf World Cup Group B qualifier against St Kitts & Nevis on Friday at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo, from 7.30 pm with a training session at the same venue on Tuesday (June 3) from 5 pm.
The T&T squad arrived home on Sunday afternoon after Saturday’s 4-0 loss to four-time African Nation Cups winners Ghana “Black Stars”, in their third-place playoff at Brentford’s GTECH Community Stadium in England, which came after their 2-3 loss in their semifinal to Jamaica at the same venue on Tuesday (May 27).
During Tuesday’s training session, Yorke is expected to name his final 26-man squad for the St Kitts & Newis encounter, and among the players joining the team at their live-in camp at Cascadia Hotel Conference Centre, who were not involved in the two matches in England, were uncapped CF. Montreal defender Dante Sealy, the son of former T&T striker Scott Sealy; Spartak Moscow striker Levi Garcia; Toronto FC’s Tyrese Spicer; Atlanta United’s Ajani Fortune; Steffen Yeates of Canada’s York United; Halifax Wanderers’ Andre Rampersad; Denzil Smith of the USA’s AV Alta FC; and Wayne Fredericks II of the Colorado Rapids.
T&T is currently second in Group B qualifiers with four points from two matches, trailing Costa Rica, which has a maximum of six points after a 2-2 draw at home to St Kitts & Nevis and a 7-1 win on the road against Bahamas.
At the end of the round-robin series, the top two teams will advance to the next stage of the Concacaf World Cup qualifiers.
Following Friday’s match versus St Kitts & Nevis, the Soca Warriors will then play away to Costa Rica on Tuesday, June 10, from 9 pm.
Meanwhile, St Kitts & Nevis football team warmed up for its clash with T&T with a 3-0 loss to St Vincent and the Grenadines at the Samuel Williams Sporting Complex in Verchilds, Basseterre, St Kitts/Nevis, on Sunday (May 25).
For the visiting St Vincent and The Grenadines, ranked 172nd in the FIFA world rankings, Clairon Haynes scored a double in the 63rd and 74th minutes, while Annashime Springer was also on target in the 67th in a 14-minute second-half blitz.
Both teams were using the matches as part of their preparations for the resumption of their World Cup qualifier with St Vincent and The Grenadines to face Anguilla on June 4 before meeting Puerto Rico on June 10.
