T&T cricketers suffered their first loss at the Bolivarian Games, when they went under to rivals Barbados at the Lima Polo Club in Basni Belima, Peru Friday.
Barbados were sent in to bat first and posted 150/5 from their 20 overs, the highest total scored against T&T at the Games so far.
Shian Brathwaite scored 63 not out from 58 balls, which included seven fours and two sixes, and was supported by captain Giovante Depeiza, who scored 20 runs from 13 balls. The Barbadians got added support from Tennyson Roach (18) and Edwin Currency Barnett (16).
Damion Joachim continued his good form with the ball with figures of 2 for 33, and was supported by Teshawn Castro, who took 2 for 12. Left-arm pacer Shaaron Lewis also took one wicket for 26 runs.
In reply, T&T cricketers were in early trouble, slumping to 27/4 in the seventh over, with Kamil Pooran, Leonardo Julien, Teshawn Castro, and Kyle Ramdin all back in the pavilion.
Dejourn Charles then took things into his own hands and scored a 29-ball 39 that included two fours and two sixes. He was supported by captain Vikash Mohan, who made 27 with two boundaries.
Mikkel Govia was the only other batsman who scored in double figures as the twin-island Republic were bowled out for 116 in 19.4 overs to hand Barbados the 34-run victory to win their first match of the Games. T&T opened the competition with wins against hosts Peru and Jamaica on Thursday.
The women's team was in winners’ row today, beating Jamaica by eight wickets. Jamaica scored 58 all out in 18.5 overs. Spinner Samara Ramnath took 4 for 11 to lead the bowling attack. Then, Britney Cooper scored 33 not out as T&T Women won in the ninth over. On Thursday, the women's unit also won its opening matches against Jamaica (by seven wickets) and Barbados (by 108 runs).
