T&T will play for seventh place in the Fast5 Netball competition at the Trinbago2023 Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG), on Thursday.
The local youth netball team remained winless following their fifth to eighth placement semifinal playoff loss to Botswana, 15-11, at the Shaw Park Complex in Tobago, on Wednesday.
Earlier, the T&T youth netballers had no answer for Australia as they were beaten 64-2 in their third and final Group A match in the preliminary round. The host team suffered defeats against Canada (22-11) and Scotland (37-14), respectively, on day one of the competition, Tuesday.
In the opening match of the second day of action in the Fast5 competition, the two other teams in Group A battled and it was the Scottish team emerging with a commanding 24-4 victory over Canada.
This meant at the end of the preliminary round play, T&T finished in fourth place with zero points behind unbeaten Australia with six points, second-placed Scotland (four points) and third-placed Canada (two points).
In group B, South Africa dominated the St Vincent and the Grenadines, 72-8 to emerge the top team, finishing undefeated to lead the group with six points, England made light work of Botswana beating them 47-8 to be second with four points. Botswana was third with two and winless St Vincent and the Grenadines was fourth with no points.
The T&T netballers will hoping to earn their first win of the competition when they face Caribbean neighbour St Vincent and the Grenadines in the first match of the day, Thursday, in the seventh-eighth playoff at 2.15 pm. St Vincent and the Grenadines were defeated by the Canadians, 25-11 in the opening Classification playoffs semifinal match-up in the evening session on Wednesday.
In the second match, Canada and Botswana will compete for fifth place at 3.15 pm.
Meanwhile the battle for gold will continue among the top four teams.
In semifinal one, Australia was scheduled to meet England at 7.15 pm and Scotland takes on South Africa in the other at 8.15 pm. The final is carded for Thursday 5.15 pm after the bronze medal match at 4.15 pm.
