T&T's Abeni Procope brought home a silver medal after she placed second in her category at the 2019 International Federation Body Building (IFFB) Diamond Cup Saint Martin/St Maarten Championships which came off at Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino, St Maarten on Sunday.
The contest was a great opportunity for IFBB Elite Pro’s to earn their spot in the 2019 IFBB Elite World Championships.
As well, points that go towards the 2019 IFBB Elite Pro World Rankings were awarded to the top athletes.
Competing in the Women's Body Fitness, Procope who was a double winner at the Darcey Cup and Pro Diamond Cup in Barbados last month had to settle for the runner-up spot with a score of five behind Jamaican Kristen Mc Gregor (four), while Antigua and Barbuda's Sheer-Rhonda Brathwaite got the third spot with eight points.
The Open Men's Bodybuilding category was won by Daniel Damian Gorvey from Granada with nine points, ahead of Spain's Omar Pellejero Saurez (18), Guyana's Selvon Whatley (30) and T&T's Lee Beatrice (33).
The Men’s Physique category was won by the popular Dmytro Horobets from Ukraine ahead of Dominican Republic's Edgar Mindy and France's Jean Guerby De Sulme.
T&T duo, Brendon Francis and Dexter Simon, were ninth and 11th place finishers respectively.
The popular Bikini athletes were back at it as Russia’s Yana Kuznetsova took first while Jamaica’s Avernell Modest finished in second and Hungary’s Karina Gavrikova took third.
The Wellness title went to Curacao’s Deydania Rodriguez followed by Mexican Cynthia Gonzalez Zesati and Brazilian Isabelle Pereira.
In the morning session on Sunday, which comprised amateurs, 45-year-old Beatrice won the Men's Open Bodybuilding ahead of Desmond Patterson of Sint Maarten, with T&T's Kriston Barry Copliah, third.
Next up for the T&T professionals is the IFFB Elite Pro competition in Aruba, the Giovanni Arendz Classic, August 17-18, where, the T&T Pro athletes will go after podium finishes.
