Ven­ture Cred­it Union Co-op­er­a­tive So­ci­ety Lim­it­ed's 5K run and fun walk will take place on Sep­tem­ber 17 from 7 am.

The an­nu­al event was launched on Wednes­day at the Radis­son Ho­tel in Port-of-Spain. This year the Cred­it Union is al­so cel­e­brat­ing its 24th an­niver­sary in host­ing the road rac­ing event with the theme ‘Back on Track.’.

Af­ter sev­er­al set­backs due to the COVID-19 pan­dem­ic, Ven­ture Cred­it Union board pres­i­dent Charles Per­cy hopes de­spite the chal­lenges faced and know­ing it was a dif­fi­cult pe­ri­od, that peo­ple will look for­ward to the 5K race again.

“This is a very dif­fi­cult year for Ven­ture, be­cause we are try­ing to re­build the or­gan­i­sa­tions but putting out this kind of con­tri­bu­tion to en­sure we get the en­er­gy back in the or­gan­i­sa­tion is what it is all about,” said Per­cy.

This year, par­tic­i­pants will al­so get the op­por­tu­ni­ty to com­pete for the Desmond E Bax­ter Chal­lenge Tro­phy.

The race starts and ends at the Ven­ture Cred­it Union build­ing on 32 South­ern Main Road, Cou­va.

Reg­is­tra­tion for adults (over the age of 18) is $100 with per­sons 18 and un­der (pri­ma­ry and Sec­ondary School 18 and un­der), $30. Reg­is­tra­tion forms can be col­lect­ed at the Cou­va, Arou­ca and San Fer­nan­do branch­es. On­line reg­is­tra­tion is avail­able at www.ven­ture­cred­i­tu­nion.com. There is no reg­is­tra­tion on the date of the event.

Prizes for the win­ners in both the men's and women's cat­e­gories are the same with each first-place fin­ish­er will col­lect $3,000, sec­ond $2,500, third, $2,000, fourth and fifth places, $1,500 and $1,000, re­spec­tive­ly.

The top three fin­ish­ers in the age-group cat­e­gories – U-15, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over – will al­so re­ceive mon­e­tary prizes. First place will get $300, sec­ond $200 and third, $150. A spe­cial prize (dis­abled) of $200 will al­so be pre­sent­ed.

Team awards will al­so be hand­ed out for the fun walk com­peti­tors from fi­nan­cial in­sti­tu­tions, cred­it unions, schools, cor­po­ra­tions and gyms/fit­ness groups. The prizes in­clud­ed ham­pers which will be award­ed through a lot­tery sys­tem (with a fun walk num­ber).

Re­fresh­ments will be pro­vid­ed for all par­tic­i­pants with the prize giv­ing and en­ter­tain­ment tak­ing place af­ter the race.

The warm-up for the 24th edi­tion of the 5K is at 6.30 am.
