Venture Credit Union Co-operative Society Limited's 5K run and fun walk will take place on September 17 from 7 am.
The annual event was launched on Wednesday at the Radisson Hotel in Port-of-Spain. This year the Credit Union is also celebrating its 24th anniversary in hosting the road racing event with the theme ‘Back on Track.’.
After several setbacks due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Venture Credit Union board president Charles Percy hopes despite the challenges faced and knowing it was a difficult period, that people will look forward to the 5K race again.
“This is a very difficult year for Venture, because we are trying to rebuild the organisations but putting out this kind of contribution to ensure we get the energy back in the organisation is what it is all about,” said Percy.
This year, participants will also get the opportunity to compete for the Desmond E Baxter Challenge Trophy.
The race starts and ends at the Venture Credit Union building on 32 Southern Main Road, Couva.
Registration for adults (over the age of 18) is $100 with persons 18 and under (primary and Secondary School 18 and under), $30. Registration forms can be collected at the Couva, Arouca and San Fernando branches. Online registration is available at www.venturecreditunion.com. There is no registration on the date of the event.
Prizes for the winners in both the men's and women's categories are the same with each first-place finisher will collect $3,000, second $2,500, third, $2,000, fourth and fifth places, $1,500 and $1,000, respectively.
The top three finishers in the age-group categories – U-15, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60 and over – will also receive monetary prizes. First place will get $300, second $200 and third, $150. A special prize (disabled) of $200 will also be presented.
Team awards will also be handed out for the fun walk competitors from financial institutions, credit unions, schools, corporations and gyms/fitness groups. The prizes included hampers which will be awarded through a lottery system (with a fun walk number).
Refreshments will be provided for all participants with the prize giving and entertainment taking place after the race.
The warm-up for the 24th edition of the 5K is at 6.30 am.
