Reece Webster and Omari Lewis captured the 60-metre sprint titles for Liberty University at the Conference US Indoor Championships in Lynchburg, Virginia held over two days, February 22-23.
Webster took the women's crown in 7.32 seconds, 0;01 seconds slower than the 7.31 school record and personal best (pb) she set in the heats earlier in the day. She was also second in the 200m finals in 23.27 and helped Liberty's 4x400m team to fourth spot in the finals (3:48.12).
Lewis raced the men's 60m honour in 6.67(pb). Reece's brother Revel was sixth in 6.86. Lewis was third in the 200m final in 21.11 with Revel taking sixth place (21.96). The Websters and Lewis compete for local track club, Concorde.
Timothy Frederick (Eastern New Mexico), Amiri Prescod (Villanova), Joanna Rogers (Jacksonville) also won gold at their respective Conference Championships.
Frederick landed the Lone Star men's 200m crown in Norman, Oklahoma in 21.61. The Simplex sprinter was third in the 400m (48.90).
Prescod took home the Big East 60m dash in 6.75 (pb). Dominic Cole (DePaul/Abilene Wildcats) was seventh (6.89). Cole won bronze in the 200m finals (21.57).
Rogers topped the women's 400m finals at the Atlantic Sun Conference in 55.71. Rogers and the Jacksonville team-mates also won the women's 4x400m race in 3:44.35.
Leah Bertrand (Ohio/Simplex) landed silver in the women's 60m finals at the Big Ten Champs in 7.29 seconds. She also placed fifth in the 200m medal race (23.81).
Onal Mitchell helped his Northern Iowa team to the runner-up spot in the men's 4x400m at the Missouri Valley Conference Champs in 3:1.367. Mitchell missed out on a medal in the 400m taking fourth spot in 48.05.
University of South California freshman Nathan Cumberbatch recorded his fourth sub 1:50 clocking for the indoor season when he clocked 1:48.33 seconds to race to victory at the Hen Shannon Last Chance Meet in Seattle, Washington on February 24. The teenager set a new national Under-20 record of 1:47.78 in Arkansas, USA on January 27. Cumberbatch is the reigning Carifta Boys U-20 800m champion.
T&T's Le Bron James was third in the men's pole vault at the Gibson/McCook Relays in Kingston Jamaica on February 24. James cleared 3.50m. His younger brother, Commonwealth Youth Games silver medallist, Jaidi James,was seventh in the men's long jump with a distance of 6.42m. The James brothers are students of Jamaica College.
Queen's Royal College (QRC) finished in sixth in the Class One Boys 4x200m finals in 1:29.01. In the preliminaries, QRC was seventh with 1:30.10. The 2024 Trinbago Schools Relays boys' winners were also 10th in the 4x400m heats (3:20.10). Bishop Anstey was 15th in the Class Two girls 4x100m in 50.89 and 20th in the 4x20m (1:49.97).
