Jay­sean Wells, Ma­lik Bain, Keyah Roberts and Karis­sa Mo­hammed mount­ed to win­ner's row over re­gion­al coun­ter­parts on the open­ing day of the RBC 47th Ju­nior Ten­nis Tour­na­ment at the Na­tion­al Rac­quet Cen­tre in Tacarigua.

Bain, play­ing on court one, took three sets to over­come his St Lu­cian coun­ter­part Je­lani Flemius 4-1, 1-4, 10-6 in his open­ing round-robin af­fair of the boys' 10 and un­der di­vi­sion. How­ev­er, Wells was more com­mand­ing in the boys' 14 and un­der cat­e­go­ry, bat­tling to a 5-4(9) tri­umph in the first set over Guyana's Jose Ro­drigues, be­fore seal­ing the vic­to­ry with a 4-1 tri­umph in the sec­ond set.

Ear­li­er, the fifth-seed­ed Wells held off his coun­try­man Noah Blanc in straight sets, 5-3, 4-0, and promis­es to be a force to be reck­oned with to­day when the ac­tion con­tin­ues.

Mean­while, Roberts, the girls' 12 and un­der ace who went in­to ac­tion yes­ter­day as the sec­ond-ranked play­er in her age brack­et, took care of St Lu­cia's Joelle Habib, 4-1, 4-2, while Karis­sa Mo­hammed pro­duced an al­most flaw­less 4-0, 4-2 win over Amia Marie of St Lu­cia in the girls' 14 and un­der di­vi­sion on court six.

In that cat­e­go­ry (girls 14 and un­der) there were al­so wins for T&T's Lil­ly Mo­hammed over Cyra Ram­cha­ran 4-1, 5-3; Make­da Bain over Charde Sylvester 4-0, 4-0; and Madi­son Khan over Iso­bel Al­leyne 4-0, 4-0.

In the boys' equiv­a­lent there were vic­to­ries for Gabriel Man­soor over Joshua Mitchell 4-0, 4-2; Ja­cob Jacelon over Joshua Mitchell 4-0, 4-0; Christo­pher Khan over Ridel­lo Bood­hai 4-1, 5-3; Man­soor over Javed Dowlat 4-0, 4-2; Jack Brown over Justin Hors­ford 0-4, 4-2, 10-5; Oliv­er Har­ra­gin over Bood­hai 4-2, 4-1; Dar­ius Ra­haman over Hors­ford 4-2, 4-2; and Brown over Josh Mo­hammed 4-0, 4-0.
