DUBAI, United Arab Emirates – The West Indies Women’s woes in their ongoing T20I series against Australia Women were compounded after they were fined 10 per cent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over rate in Thursday’s opening match.
The home side was adjudged by match referee Reon King to have been two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, after on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Jacqueline Williams, third umpire Candace La Borde and fourth umpire Maria Abbott levelled the charge.
As per Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which states that for minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.
West Indies Women’s captain Hayley Matthews pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, which rules out the need for a formal hearing.
The West Indies trail the three-match series 2-0, with the final T20I scheduled to be played on Monday.
