T&T's Andre Marcano copped a silver medal in the men's 60 metres at the Villanova Invitational at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in New York in the United States on Saturday.
The Central Park Track Club sprinter clocked a time of 6.87 seconds to finish a close second to Delaware State University freshman Ibrahim Bangura with 6.85. This after advanced with the fastest qualifying time of 6.88.
Another local sprinter Semoy Hackett was in action on the weekend as well and in the women's 60m dash final, she crossed in 7.54 to place seventh at the Houston G5 & Super 22 Invitational at the Houston-Yeoman Field House in Houston, Texas on Friday.
On the College circuit, Lisa Wickham of Tennessee Tech impressed on the track while several T&T student-athletes narrowly missed out on podium finishes.
Wickham, a senior, sped to victory in the women's 60m with 7.28 at the Buccaneer Track & Field Invitational held at the East Tennessee State-Memorial Centre in Johnson City. This after advancing with the leading times in the preliminary round (7.43) and semifinal heats (7.31), going faster each time.
At the Razorback Invitational held at the Randal Tyson Indoor Centre in Fayetteville, Arizona, Louisiana State University (LSU) senior Akanni Hislop just missed out on a medal in the men's 200m placing fourth with a 20.83-clocking. He also competed in the 60m and placed 16th in 6.81.
Texas A&M junior Tyra Gittens was also a fourth-place finisher in the women's high jump with a best leap of 1.84m. On the track, she placed 15th in the women's 60m hurdles at Texas Tech Invitational, Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, TX
At the Scarlet and White Invitational at the Boston University Track & Tennis Centre in Boston, Massachusetts, senior Aaron Lewis of Coppin State University placed 17th in the men's 200m with 22.20.
His schoolmate Nku Henry, senior as well, also faced the starter in the half-lap event but was penalised for a false start.
Henry also competed in the 400m and 52.47 to complete the lap to place 27th in another timed final.
University of Colorado freshman Tamia Badal raced in two events at Colorado Invitational in Boulder. She crossed third in section two with 25.81 to place seventh overall in the 200m and was fifth in the 60m hurdles final with 8.62.
T&T athletes also had several successes at the NJCAA level including golden performances from Ayla Stanisclaus of New Mexico Junior College (JC) at the New Mexico Team Open and Kadesha Prescott of Pratt Community College (CC) and Safiya John of the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff at the Pittsburg State Invitational in Kansas.
Freshman Stanisclaus won gold in the women's 60m with 7.37 after progressing to the medal race with the fastest qualifying time of 7.43. She also bagged a bronze in the 200m placing second in section two of the timed final with 24.11.
Freshman Jalen Purcell also of New Mexico JC placed fifth with 6.77 in the men's 60m final and national sprinter Emmanuel Callender (Unattached) finished 11th 6.84 in the preliminary round and did not advance.
At Pittsburg State meet, sophomore Kadesha Prescott won the women's 60m with a 7.39-clocking and she placed second overall in 200m with 24.49 after crossing first in section nine.
John, a sophomore, won the women's 60m dash in 8.60 and over on the field, she placed sixth in the long jump with 5.48m.
