Shai Hope-led West Indies, buoyed by their unassailable 2-0 lead, will be pushing for a dominant 3-0 series whitewash against Bangladesh in the final T20 International (T20I) at Chattogram, Bangladesh, today. For the home side, the third match presents a final chance to salvage pride and find a much-needed victory.
Hope acknowledged that while the series win is a huge boost, their performance in the second T20I—where they collapsed after a strong start and finished with a "concerned" score of 149—was less than ideal.
"Definitely concerned (about 149). When we spoke at the halfway stage, we thought 190 or even 200 was on. But credit to the bowlers, that they gave us that win... We will want to finish 3-0 and go to NZ on a high," said Hope said in his post-match interview.
Hope also highlighted a critical area for improvement, fielding.
"We always speak about catches win matches and we did ourselves no favour there. Again, credit to the bowlers. We have to look at that [dropped catches] for the next game," he said.
The Caribbean side's success, despite the batting and fielding lapses, has largely been driven by their exceptional bowling unit, perfectly encapsulated by "Player of the Match", Romario Shepherd. His all-round contribution proved decisive in the last game.
In the post-match interview, Shepherd said, "It was difficult to hit in the backend and it was important to start well with the ball. We knew if we bowled well in the middle, it would be tough at the end. It was a small total so there was no room for errors."
Shepherd, however, dismissed the fielding errors as simply "part of the game," stressing the importance of immediate focus, saying, "We just had to think about the next ball. What is gone is gone. We just wanted to focus on the next ball."
Having already lost the series, Bangladesh will be fighting desperately to avoid a clean sweep in front of their home fans. The squad, led by Litton Das, will rely heavily on batsmen like Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Towhid Hridoy, as well as their potent bowling attack featuring Mustafizur Rahman and Rishad Hossain, to deliver a winning performance.
First ball is at 8 am.
