Clint Latchman copped the "Most Goals" award as Young Lions roared to the Opening Day round-robin title when the second annual Five-A-Side Basketball Court Football League hosted by Bellisima Events kicked off at the L'Anse Mitan Recreation Grounds on November 4.
In the four-team tournament decider, Latchman got the lone goal, his second in as many matches to secure a 1-0 win for Young Lions over Dark FC.
Earlier in the semifinals, Young Lions battled past Point Cumana 2-1 while Dark FC got the better of Big Yard FC 1-0.
And when league matches kicked off on Friday night at the same venue, Young Lions continued their winning ways via another 1-0 triumph against Crazy Monkey's thanks to a strike from Nakil Jules, while Smith Hill FC and Dark FC battled to a goalless draw in the opener.
On Saturday (November 11), Point Cumana comes up against Scorpion FC in the final match of Week One.
The winners of the league will collect $5,000 while the runners-up will get $3,000 and the third-placed finishers $1,000.
According to Sheryll De Bique, founder of the Bellissima Organising Committee which also comprises Akil Mark, the competition which had its first staging last year was born out of the need to foster a positive avenue for the youngsters in the community.
She said, "In the recent past there had been an increase in crime among the youths in our community and Akil (Mark) and I came together and decided that we wanted to create a peaceful and positive environment in a substantial community through the use of sport whether it was football, netball or basketball.
"We had a successful netball tournament as well as a football competition, but the basketball competition didn't really get off the ground, and this year we are back at it again with the football competition.
"So far we have six teams involved, and we are hoping that by the closing date of registration on Saturday, November 18, we will be able to add four more teams to the competition, and we are doing all this without the support any major sponsors, except Captil Signal Company Signal Limited who has been part of our journey from day one."
Matches are played on Fridays and Saturdays until further notice.
