Captain Kelelicia George led from the front in getting T&T to its second straight win in the Caribbean Netball Association Jean Pierre Under-16 Championships at the YMCA court in Antigua on Monday evening.
The national netballers comfortably defeated Dominica, 30-19 in round three action with George notching a match-high 21 goals from 26 attempts while her goal-shooter netted nine of 15 in the lopsided match.
The junior "Calypso Girls" controlled from the first quarter, leading 8-4 heading into the second session. The Velma Hazelwood-coached team remained ahead at the halfway mark, holding a 14-8 advantage.
Dominica, piloted by goal-shooter Treneese Hamilton (9/15) and Etheline Telemaque (10/16), did attempt to make a comeback, outscoring T&T in the third period, 7-5 but the girls dressed in red, white and black, stayed out front by four (19-15) goals.
In the fourth and final quarter, T&T got a spark from defenders vice-captain Destiny Willians and Ashley Greig, who locked down the Dominican shooters and limited their chances at goal, allowing only four goals while the local shooters connected 11 down the other end, pulling away again to win by 11.
Late yesterday evening, T&T was scheduled to meet one of its tougher opponents in the competition, St Lucia, who remains unbeaten after wins against Antigua & Barbuda (43-8), Grenada (23-22) and Bermuda (41-22), respectively.
Meanwhile, T&T, which finished fourth in last year's edition, has two wins with the other being versus Bermuda (35-15) and a loss to Barbados (35-22) in its opening match.
In the other match played on Monday, the Barbadians, who are also undefeated in the competition named after the late great T&T netballer Jean Pierre, whipped host country Antigua & Barbuda, 61-3.
