The International School of Port-of-Spain collected its Under-17 Champions trophy during the T&T Schools Rugby Football Union's 2009 Awards Ceremony for the Digicel School's Rugby League at St Mary's College in Port-of-Spain on Wednesday. ISPS beat St Mary's in the final though St Mary's junior team emerged the winner of the Digicel Under-14 League. The league ran from October to December 2009 on a weekly basis and involved young rugby enthusiasts all of whom put their skills to the test in what can be best described as one of the toughest sports on the field. At the games, friends, family and well wishers could be seen on the sideline eagerly cheering them on.
President of the T&T Schools Rugby Football Union Gregory Rousseau told the youngsters: "You are in a pioneering role and it is your standards of application, commitment, sportsmanship and loyalty to the group of forty (40) that will set the bar for future classes."
Digicel's Sponsorship and Public Relations Officer Natalie Black was on hand to present the trophy to the Under-14 League Champions team St Mary's College. The 2009 Digicel All Stars were also presented with Certificate of Honour. Digicel has been sponsoring the the Secondary Schools Rugby League for three seasons.
