ISPS crowned schools U-17 rugby champion

The In­ter­na­tion­al School of Port-of-Spain col­lect­ed its Un­der-17 Cham­pi­ons tro­phy dur­ing the T&T Schools Rug­by Foot­ball Union's 2009 Awards Cer­e­mo­ny for the Dig­i­cel School's Rug­by League at St Mary's Col­lege in Port-of-Spain on Wednes­day. ISPS beat St Mary's in the fi­nal though St Mary's ju­nior team emerged the win­ner of the Dig­i­cel Un­der-14 League. The league ran from Oc­to­ber to De­cem­ber 2009 on a week­ly ba­sis and in­volved young rug­by en­thu­si­asts all of whom put their skills to the test in what can be best de­scribed as one of the tough­est sports on the field. At the games, friends, fam­i­ly and well wish­ers could be seen on the side­line ea­ger­ly cheer­ing them on.

Pres­i­dent of the T&T Schools Rug­by Foot­ball Union Gre­go­ry Rousseau told the young­sters: "You are in a pi­o­neer­ing role and it is your stan­dards of ap­pli­ca­tion, com­mit­ment, sports­man­ship and loy­al­ty to the group of forty (40) that will set the bar for fu­ture class­es."

Dig­i­cel's Spon­sor­ship and Pub­lic Re­la­tions Of­fi­cer Na­tal­ie Black was on hand to present the tro­phy to the Un­der-14 League Cham­pi­ons team St Mary's Col­lege. The 2009 Dig­i­cel All Stars were al­so pre­sent­ed with Cer­tifi­cate of Ho­n­our. Dig­i­cel has been spon­sor­ing the the Sec­ondary Schools Rug­by League for three sea­sons.
