Reyare Thomas (Iowa Central Community College) sprinted to the 60m title at the 2012 National Junior College Indoor Track and Field Championships in Charleston, Illinois on the weekend. Thomas raced to gold in 7.37, a personal best, which improved on her third place finish in last year's 55m finals. Thomas was also fifth in the women's 200m finals in 24.89 and returned to help Iowa Central win the 4X400m relay finals in 3:51:56. School-mate Dan-Neil Telesford was sixth in the men's 200m finals (22.03). Deverly Robley of Butler County was 16th in the men's 800m heats in 2:00:93 and help Bulter to 12th in the4 X800m relay finals (8:06:12). Iowa Central were the overall champions winning the ladies competition with 187 points and the men's with 107. Barton County was second in the men's standing on 82 points.
Stewart improves national weight record
Emmanuel Stewart (Morgan State) improved his own men's national weight throw record with a heave of 18.40m at the IC4A Indoor Championships in Boston, Massachusetts recently. The 2008 Carifta Discus champion finished seventh. Stewart added 39cm to the previous best of 18.01m he established at the Mid Eastern Athletic Championships on February 17.
John and Allsop win last Qualifier meet
Summit League double indoor champion Deborah John won the 60m hurdles crown at the Iowa State Qualifer at the Ames, Iowa. The North Dakota student clocked 8.36 to add to her 60m/60mH triumph at the Summit League Championships two weeks ago. John was also fourth in the 60m flat in 7.61. Zwede Hewitt was runner up in the men's 400m in 46.40. The time is faster than his personal best of 47.18 set earlier than season but the clocking was established on a oversized track. Shermund Allsop (LSU) took the men's 60m dash at the LSU Invitational in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in a personal best of 6.82.
