KINGSTON-Lyn­del Wright un­seat­ed in­cum­bent Paul Camp­bell, tak­ing charge of the sport in is­land.

This fol­lows the elec­tion of of­fi­cers at the Ja­maica Crick­et As­so­ci­a­tion's an­nu­al gen­er­al meet­ing on Wednes­day. Wright, a for­mer na­tion­al bats­man, moved up from the po­si­tion of vice pres­i­dent to de­feat Camp­bell 55-36 at an AGM that last­ed more than eight hours. "What I want is team work, uni­ty, and for Ja­maica to recog­nise that it's not just about the JCA, it's about all of us col­lec­tive­ly, clubs, af­fil­i­ates and parish­es, work­ing to­geth­er to make Ja­maica's crick­et bet­ter than what it is," he told re­porters. "We [need to] have har­mo­ny and love among our­selves as we go for­ward for our young peo­ple in crick­et. It is im­por­tant that we work col­lec­tive­ly as a body." He added: "I want to thank every­one who sup­port­ed my team, and I want us all to recog­nise that it's all about Ja­maica's crick­et; the peo­ple's crick­et.

"For those who have served in the pre­vi­ous ad­min­is­tra­tion, I want to thank them, and that in­cludes Paul Camp­bell." The new JCA ex­ec­u­tive al­so in­cludes Ian Brown, the as­sis­tant sec­re­tary, who was em­broiled in a heat­ed ex­change with Camp­bell, which end­ed with him mak­ing a re­port to the po­lice, ac­cus­ing the for­mer pres­i­dent of as­sault. Mau­rice Clarke, a for­mer na­tion­al bats­man, has al­so be­come the new as­sis­tant trea­sur­er. Camp­bell, whose tenure end­ed con­tro­ver­sial­ly, said he will re­main ac­tive in the sport. "This rep­re­sents the end of my term as an ex­ec­u­tive mem­ber of the JCA, but I love this game too much, so it's not the end of my con­tri­bu­tion to crick­et," he said. (CMC)
