Trinidad and To­ba­go record­ed a 10-day pe­ri­od with­out a mur­der, which Prime Min­is­ter Kam­la Per­sad-Bisses­sar de­scribed as a “small mile­stone” in the fight against crime.

In a Face­book post, Per­sad-Bisses­sar said a mur­der was record­ed yes­ter­day, end­ing the pe­ri­od, but main­tained that steady progress was be­ing made to­wards the Gov­ern­ment’s an­ti-crime ob­jec­tives.

She thanked law-abid­ing cit­i­zens who sup­port­ed ef­forts to curb crime and said the Gov­ern­ment looked for­ward to “greater progress” in the com­ing months

Man found mur­dered in PoS

A man be­lieved to be home­less was found mur­dered in East Port-of-Spain on Fri­day.

The dis­cov­ery was made around 1.10 pm by of­fi­cers of the In­ter-Agency Task Force (IATF) as­signed to the Dun­can Street Po­lice Post.

The of­fi­cers were re­spond­ing to a re­port from a man work­ing on a Hous­ing De­vel­op­ment Cor­po­ra­tion (HDC) apart­ment build­ing along Dun­can Street, who was alert­ed to the in­jured man’s pres­ence by a fe­male res­i­dent.

They found the man, who had ap­par­ent in­juries, un­re­spon­sive. He was tak­en to the Port-of-Spain Gen­er­al Hos­pi­tal in an am­bu­lance and was pro­nounced dead on ar­rival by a doc­tor.

He was lat­er iden­ti­fied as 65-year-old Ri­car­do “Half Breed” Flatts.

Crime scene in­ves­ti­ga­tors vis­it­ed the lo­ca­tion where Flatts’ body was found and took pho­tographs and blood sam­ples. Guardian Me­dia un­der­stands that homi­cide de­tec­tives would await the au­top­sy to de­ter­mine Flatts’ ex­act cause of death.

De­tec­tives of the Re­gion One Homi­cide Bu­reau are con­tin­u­ing in­ves­ti­ga­tions. —Derek Achong
