God could have revealed himself to mankind as a ‘Hercules’ or a ‘Superman,’ but simply identifies as the Word. He spoke, and the world was created, ordered, and preserved by the word of his power.
His word to us becomes wisdom, knowledge, understanding and discretion. God’s spoken word always accomplishes that which he purposes and succeeds in the thing for which it is sent (Isaiah 55:11). In Eden’s garden, God’s word to man was very specific to his environment and daily reality: He told Adam that if he ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, he would surely die. Adam ate, and he died.
God’s word is the law that is designed to help us to become instruments of justice and judgement. It defines the principles by which we are to live and informs us about what is acceptable or unacceptable action, firstly toward God, ourselves, our fellowmen, and our environment. The objective of the law is charity out of a pure heart.
God’s word became flesh - a person - Jesus by name. He dwelt among us with a grace and truth that generated life and light. His teachings and lifestyle unveiled a level of existence that exceeded that which emanated from the mere observance of the letter of the law.
God’s word is grace. Grace does not focus on rewards and punishment, but on mercy and truth. This facility ensures that we don’t have to function in our own strength, but God works in us both to desire and to execute his good purpose (Philippians 2:13).
Despite our best endeavour, we failed miserably at trying to satisfy the just expectations of the law, so by partnering with us, Jesus empowers us to fulfil all righteousness, and his blood cleanses us from all sins. To this end, Paul writes, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).
We function like our Creator, and the ability to use words is a tremendous responsibility on our part.
Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love to speak must also accept the consequences of their words (Proverbs 18:21). Paul urges, “No foul or abusive language should come out of your mouths, but only what is good for edifying someone in need” (Colossians 4:29).
God speaks all of earth’s languages (over 7000). When the Holy Spirit fell upon the disciples of Christ on the day of Pentecost, they began declaring the wonders of God in other languages as the Holy Spirit gave them this ability. Each person among the international crowd gathered in Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost was amazed to hear them speak in their own tongue.
By God’s design, it is through our words that we access salvation, for with the heart man believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
So, confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved.
